| bradtaura's Full Review: Uniden EXP 3240 2.4 GHz 1-Line Cordless Phone |
When I bought the Uniden EXP3240 I was just looking for a phone that would just be functional in my front room. Little did I know that it would quickly become my favorite phone in the house (and ironically the cheaper one).
The reason I bought it in the first place is that it seemed to fit the bill:
It was simple in design
It didn't take a lot of space
It's sound clarity must be good with the 2.4gig
It could be mounted on the wall or set on a counter
It was under $20
The only concern I had in buying it was that my wireless router (for internet access) is also a 2.4gig at home. I wondered it that would present problems. Luckily, there has been no incompatibilities between the two and they are located in the same room so I doubt anyone else would have a problem.
The range is great. I can take it to the end of our block and back without loosing signal.
I was also glad that it had a Random code digital security feature that keeps your phone line from being tampered with by outside long distance calling thieves (because of it's large range, it would be easy to tap in without this feature). This wasn't something I had initially worried about, but I appreciate it.
The sound quality (even from incoming cell phone calls or long distance) is the best I have ever had.
It has plenty of channels to work with so it you hear a crackly sound, just change the channel and you are back in business.
Other Important features:
One touch RocketDial for those numbers you dial a lot.
Mute Ringer Capability for when you don't want to be disturbed.
Pulse/Tone dialing
Hearing Aid Compatible
Battery life 7 hours talk time & 14 hours off the base.
Handset Locater button for when you misplace the phone.
Redial button feature comes in handy.
Another feature that I love is that when my phone rings it automatically turns on when I pick it up off the base. It also hangs up when I return it to the base. It is funny how a small convenience feature can simplify your life!
This phone was rated by Consumer Reports magazine (October 2003 issue) as "Very Good". The Uniden EXI 376 rated higher probably for its additional Caller ID feature and was rated a Consumer "Best Buy".
