Pros: S-VHS does look good, sounds good, does S-VHS on normal tapes.
Cons: Two hand remote? Confusing menus.
The Bottom Line: It comes down to how badly you need S-VHS. If you want it, this is one of the cheaper I'm still deciding for myself.

First problem: doesn't correctly control my cable box. Second problem: the menus are sooo hard to get, even I had to rummage through the not too helpful manual. Third problem: the remote needs two hands if you want to operate either the cable box, or the TV (VERY annoying and uncomfortable).
Fist great thing: S-VHS ET, makes good tapes look great (but no button to turn it on/off on the remote). Second: The erase head helps out a lot for a frequent taper like me, so I don't have to throw away tapes as often because they've been degraded. Third: the 6 heads make it look and sound great; saw an improvement over my old 4 head VCR right away. Fourth: the programing screen is very easy, even the non Plus+ one.
Overall I think it's a decent VCR. The "ease of operation" needs to be worked on. I try not to touch the remote unless it's for some specific task, and instead use my programmed Sony. But it does sound and look good on the TV, and that's what you're getting it for.
