| babajane32's Full Review: Zanussi DE6850 24 in. Portable Dishwasher |
I have been the proud owner of this dishwasher for over 18 months now, and as a continuation of my last two dishwashers I am soooo... impressed.
Let me tell you a little about it...I perviously owned both an Indeset and a Bosh dishwasher...the first on I bought fairly reasonably second hand, and despite being in great condition and less than 12 months old broke after 5 short months, the catch broke and the dispenser flap then finally the heating element. It also spent most of its time smelling like a sess pit even after regular use with cleaners and freshners. It was supposed to be a 12 setting washer but i could fit no pans in it and struggled to fit a full 6 settings in due to the rack arrangement.
The second of my dishwashers was just as unsuccesfull and having purchased it new for a heap of money found I could fit more in ,but alas 18 months was all it survived and again the smells were a big problem.
Now I do use my washer very extensively and having a family of 5 with non stop meal time visitors, I load it fully and wash upto 4 times a day.I also work, as does my husband and with 3 young children my time is precious and sparce for hosehold duties, although I do enjoy a nice clean home. Which also brings me to the point of how wonderfully clean the pots are left after coming out of a dishwasher...germ free!! (hopefully)
Well I guessed third time lucky...I consulted my bank balance and went shopping......
After a good bit of research and shopping around I came accross the Zanussi and at around $220 felt it was a sound buy.I can stack pots from 7 places AND the pans and mugs galore all at the same time, and at the price equivalent to only 2/3 of that previously paid I figured a safer bet if it were only going to survive a year or two.
Now the results...18+ months on and it is still going strong...wash time less than previously, pots cleaner than ever, easier to load (due to great racking system)...room for even my larges pans and bowls and better yet...not a single smell, not even slightly, yet I am not permenently using fragranced detergents etc. It still looks as new as the day I bought it. Even the catches etc., are much more substantial than on other models and therefore more durable.
There are three main cycles to use, 1\full cycle. 2\quick wash. 3\ rinse.
I mainly use the full cycle, in total it takes around 40 minutes, but leaves the pots sparklingly clean and virtually dry, even without rinse aid added. Even in an emergengy (I've run out of powder or tablets) the pots are still very clean and have no smearing/streaking.
The quick wash is ideal when I have forgotten to switch the machine on and I have to have dinner ready in 30 minutes. Whilst I prefer a fuller wash I still find things clean and shiney, although to acheive that you would definately need to include the detergent.
Rines is great for giving those heavily burned or crusted roasting dishes a helping hand whilst you eat your dinner, leaving them ready for a full wash when you've emptied you plates and loaded them up.
This machine like most, runs fine with any main dishwasher detergents and unlike some, it has no problems in dissolving tablet form detergents.
It is a standard size and will fit into a space equivalent to a front loading washing machine or front loading tumble drier (aprox 88cm wide) with a just-below work top hight (fits under work tops).
Plumbing is simple with two water connectors that screw on or intoyour existing water pipes, and a standard waste pipe fitment that will easily connect to your waste stack. Obviously the nearer it is located to your water supply and drainage pipes the better.
If you feel you cannot connect it yourself then usually suppliers that deliver it will include instillation (providing it is within reach of your existing pipes). If you need to get it fitted independantly you should not expect to pay more than around $30 (and I'm being generous at that).
Once installed you should find it is very quiet, notably quieter than many comparable dishwashers. The only time you may find it making a slight noise is if it isn't stood totally level. In the event that your floor is uneaven, you can simply twist the two front feet to adjust the feet levels, thus making it sit totally level. This isn't something I have ever encountered a problem with, but it is something that was pointed out to me by the instillation engineer when I mentioned that I may move it later.
The only downside to any dishwasher as I can see it is that you still have to load/unload them and as I use mine so much and for so many I need a heap of plates/dishes etc.
If this model only lasts me another 12 months especially at the rate I use it, it would probably equate to use at a normal rate use to at least 6 or 7 years hard labour..so yes I will buy another one exactly the same.
So if you are looking for a great bargain and a labour saving device then go ahead ...treat yourself, you won't be sorry I promise.
Oh yeah and silly me...I forgot to mention to use it is easy...one dial with clearly marked prgrams..and an on/off button. So simple even I can use it!! (so my hubby says).
