BLIMPIE SUBS and SALADS, Not Bad

Pros: Fresh Tasting Food
Cons: Some sandwiches get too soggy.
The Bottom Line: Though we don't go often, they do have a fresh product that is flavourful.

There is something about Blimpies that just doesn't attract this big guy. I have never stopped by one on my own to pick up a sub sandwich or other item on their fast food menu. I have been in there often with my wife when we are on the way to the beach or such place where we want a fresh sandwich to go.
I try to figure why I don't do it alone. Perhaps it's just too many sub choices. I dislike making decisions when out to eat. Many times I'll just tell the waitstaff, "Give me what she is having." Waiting in lines also drives me nuts, more later.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
Walking into Blimpies I get hit by the florescent lighting. The few I go to have three or four small tables that sit two to four. Most are very bright. I rarely see many people eating in our place. Most orders are take out. The counter has all the fixin's behind glass and easy to see. The line starts with the counter person asking for your order. You watch this person make your sandwiches right there in front of you. It's good to see that they are slicing up the meats and cheeses fresh. The biggest attraction, I feel, with these sandwiches is the toppings. Onions, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, hot peppers, and such are in small bins that you can see through the counter glass. Every time I have been to a Blimpies, these bins look fresh and well stocked. Generally they are pretty generous with the add ons. In fact when squirting on oil, vinegar, mustards, and mayo they can sometimes be a little heavy handed. Do try the Wasabi horseradish, it's excellent!
The MENU
Looking up at the boards you will see that they have subs, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. I have had a wrap once. Not bad.
I particularly like the roast beef and American cheese. We have also had a number of other sandwiches. I wouldn't waste my time on their pastrami again. The fact is that Blimpies really does not have an extensive menu nor do they claim to. Subs, sandwiches and salads is their thing and now a bit more with the wraps. Bags of your choice kind of chips come with the subs. Instead you can have a small potato salad or cole slaw or even a cookie.
The breads are good. They are freshly baked on the premises. They offer choices like Italian, poppy, sesame, honey oat, and a few others.
I like the breads consistency but there really isn't a lot of flavour but that OK. I like to taste the flavours of the fillings and not the bread. On occasion when I have more of "the works" put on the sandwich, I find the bread loses its body and falls apart.
I have never tried Blimpies breakfast menu. They have a few items like the Blimpie Bluffin w/egg and choices of
cheese, ham, sausage, or bacon. Croissants and biscuits can also be filled with the same.
DRINKS
They serve Pepsi products and in our place they have a fountain where you fill the drink cups up yourself. You'll see Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Other items like coffee, tea and milk are served from behind the counter.
SERVICE
I don't have patience waiting in lines. Many times I can walk into our place with mt wife and walk right up and place an order. We get personal service and we're out fairly quickly. If there is any kind of line the wait seems to go on forever. I think its because of people making choices as the sandwiches are being ordered and the products are sliced right then and there. This helps quality but also takes time.
The staff is always courteous but never friendly in our place. They do try and move the lines but making these sandwiches take time, especially for an indecisive customer.
Our place is kept very clean behind the counter. The table section sometimes needs a little more tidying up, especially in that the tables don't seem to be used all that much.
