Pros: Good food and great customer service.
Cons: J.Alexander's is not located everywhere. Also, they may get busy at times especially on the weekends, so I'd definitely make a reservation if at all possible.

I've only heard about J.Alexander's in some restaurant publication, and when we had a chance to go to one in San Antonio while on a business trip, I couldn't pass it up. Here's what I thought about the place.....
-----
Ambiance/Decor
The dimly lit interiors of J.Alexander's gives the restaurant a calming effect for the dining patrons. The furniture and fixtures were all in dark brown or black tones, and the restaurant itself is on two levels which added to the "chic" look of the place. In addition, the kitchen area was in full view of the rest of the restaurant, so you could take a peak at the action going on behind the scenes, so to speak.

Customer Service
This is one of the features that J.Alexander's prides itself on.....professional service, for their motto is "Reputation is everything." So, from the hostesses to our server, we felt like we were definitely taken care of. The cordial and friendly nature of our server definitely took our minds off of the next full day of business ahead.
Also, it's always great when you don't have to ask for a refill on your drink at a restaurant; good servers will know to always check that whenever they pass by.

The Food
J.Alexander's is a contemporary American restaurant, and they offer a nice array of items on their menu. The menu has homemade salads, soups, fresh hand-pattied burgers, various sandwiches, hardwood grilled items (steaks, salmon, and chicken), daily fresh seafood, their award-winning prime rib of beef, baby back ribs, and of course, desserts made from scratch.
We had ordered an appetizer of Mr. Jack's Chicken Fingers which were hand-breaded and served with french fries. Grade: A-
My dinner entree (as well as the other two persons in our party) was the Rattlesnake Pasta. Actually, I had first ordered the Steak Maui (a marinated 12 oz. Delmonico steak), but unfortunately they were out of that selection for the day. But much to my surprise, the Rattlesnake pasta was a good substitute; it included Southwestern spices, peppers, chicken and linguini in a cream sauce. Grade: B+

OVERALL
I sure wish that they had a J.Alexander's restaurant in Las Vegas because I would definitely enjoy going there at least once a week! But alas, there are only 21 locations around the country with none of them on the west coast. So, if you ever get the chance to go to a J.Alexander's restaurant on a trip.....go for it,
The San Antonio restaurant is located at:
255 East Basse Road #1200
San Antonio, TX 78209
