Kentucky Fried Chicken is a chain fast-food restaurant specializing in chicken. The corporate office is in Louisville, Kentucky. Stores may be either franchises or corporate owned. Becuase of the wide variations in customer service or food quality this review is specific to the following location:
Kentucky Fried Chicken 1030 Shumard Lane Knoxville, TN 37914 Phone: (865)523-1151 Website: http://www.kfc.com/
Thursdays are busy for me. I tend to go zipping from meeting to meeting. There's not always time to stop for lunch. On this particular day I was fortunate. There wasn't much time but enough for a quick lunch.
This location has easy access from the Strawberry Plains, TN Exit #398 off of I-40. There is a traffic light in front of the store which can make it easier to get into than some of the other restaurants. This location also has a buffet. Since the food is already out and ready it can be much faster to eat here than to wait in line at one of the other "fast food" restaurants. Even the drink fountain is self-service which makes is faster.
Like all fast-food restaurants the ambience factors in at around a zero. That's not why you choose Kentucky Fried Chicken. You go for the service, food and speed.
The cost is medium for a fast food restaurant. With bottled water I paid right at $10.00 for my meal.
The buffet was in good shape. Food appeared to be rotated and stirred frequently. Nothing appeared to be dried out. The drink fountain (if I had needed it) was well stocked. The restaurant was busy. Finding a table was a little tricky. After my trip to through the buffet, I managed to catch someone as they were just getting up. Fortunately, the table was relatively clean.
Part of the buffet is a small salad bar. The lettuce was in good condition. Cold toppings were cold. It was in as good condition as the hot bar. The salad bar has been the downfall of several KFC restaurants. I was glad to see this one so well kept. They had lettuce, toppings, cole slaw and more.
There is a variety of food to be had on the buffet. You have biscuits (of course) and the famous Original Recipe Chicken or the Crispy Chicken. Both are good. Then there are sides of green beans, pintos, mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese - among others. Dessert is on the salad bar. Choose from chocolate pudding or canned fruit.
Of course, they have regular menu items too. Offerings include meals, kids meals and healthier choices like the Oven Roasted Twister.
Orders are for take out or dine in. Large quanities can be ordered to feed a family or large crowd. The staff was friendly and helpful here. I'm sure they would be glad to help you from anything from the buffet that I ordered or for catering.
