Pros: Good food, fast, reasonably priced. Family friendly
Cons: None within 15 miles of my house! Montana Mike's is an hour away. :-(
The Bottom Line: In this order go to: Montana Mike's, Coyote Canyon and Sirloin Stockade. The food is great, service is good, and the price is right.

| jadah's Full Review: Sirloin Stockade |
A review of Sirloin Stockade really gets you three reviews for the price of one. You see: Sirloin Stockade is also the name of the company overseeing Sirloin Stockade, Coyote Canyon and Montana Mike's, steakhouses all. They vary in location and atmosphere.
Sirloin Stockade and Coyote Canyon differ in very few if any respects. Both are buffets, with hot food bar, dessert and salad bars. I am a fairly frequent patron of a Sirloin Stockade in Ottawa, Kansas and less frequent to a Coyote Canyon in Salina, because it is 150 miles away. The Sirloin Stockade has a broasted chicken that is the best I have had in a buffet restaurant. The skin is crisp, but the meat is not dry. It is perfectly seasoned. It never ceases to amaze me when you find quality in that kind of quantity. Mass production of food often leads to decreases in quality. Am I right? I usually stick to the hot food bar, where I can get broasted chicken, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, shrimp and fish (Fridays), spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, soup and other items too numerous to mention.
My family, on the other hand, likes to go up to the grill. They have steaks on the grill at varying stages of doneness (did I just make up a word?). You can always find a steak that is medium rare to well done in a matter of a couple of minutes. There is also ham and roast beef usually to be found at the grill. You should know that the steaks are not large, but you can go back as often as you have the nerve. I mean even for a tiny steak, it is embarassing to be seen making a fifth or sixth trip, right? All of the forgoing information has been about Sirloin Stockade specifically. It is also applicable to Coyote Canyon. Both are all you care to eat. Both have free drink refills. Both have senior discounts. Both serve good food. It is simply a matter of which one is available in your area.
Service is better, generally at Coyote Canyon. I do not know whether it is simply the personnel at the Salina restaurant, or if the Coyote Canyon strives for better customer service. Either way, the wait staff at Coyote Canyon has always been more attentive than the folks at Sirloin Stockade.
Now on to Montana Mike's. I have been saving the best for last. You see, sit down restaurant is not really applicable as a descriptor for Coyote Canyon or Sirloin Stockade, but it is for Montana Mike's. Unlike its corporate siblings, at Monana Mike's you are seated before you order. Mike's has a mile high ribeye, a 16 ounce ribeye grilled to order, which you have to try if you go. It comes with a potato, texas toast and salad. All for about $12.00. (Tip: If you are travelling to Hays Kansas and staying at Super 8 motel, show your room key to Montana Mike's for a 10% discount!)The potato choice is more difficult than you might imagine. You see the baked potato is very good, but you can request bacon and cheese topping for your french fries. Have you ever had cheese fries at Outback Steakhouse? The bacon cheese french fries at Montana Mike's are that good!
You will spend more for a meal at Montana Mike's than at Sirloin Stockade or Coyote Canyon, but it is well worth it! All three are great restaurants for their type. I would pick Montana Mike's over the others if they were only blocks apart, but any one is a good choice.
All three restaurants are very clean. With buffets, there are always spills. Somehow they manage to keep the floors clean and safe. The restrooms are well maintained. The lighting is good in all areas of all restaurants.
You will have a good meal and a good time at any one of these restaurants if you want to. Your attitude has as much to do with your dining experience as the quality of the food. So go looking for an enjoyable meal, and most likely you will have one!
