Take me out to the ball game take me out to the crowd....
I remember the first time my father took me to a game at Wrigley..I was only 7 I believe and it got me hooked on the cubbies and baseball...No ball park in my opinion has more history and better fans..
Wrigley opened way back in 1914 and is one of the oldest still standing ballparks around..What makes this ballpark so different from other are the the outfield walls are covered in ivy.. Also the last place that put in lights for night games.. Having the wind blowing in all directions very hard at times makes for some very interesting and exciting games..
My favorite parts about the Wrigley have been the crowd all standing during the 7th inning stretch and Harry Carey ( died in 1998 but the song still lives on) singing "take me out to the ball game".. I also love watching the rooftops of nearby buildings filled with fans..Young kids on Waveland Avenue and Sheffield Avenue waiting to chase for balls hit over the backfield fences.. Seeing the fans throw back the opposing teams home run balls into the field..Watching the great players from Ernie Banks to Sammy Sosa hit huge home runs makes Wrigley the greatest ballpark in baseball...I hope they never build a new one!!
