Pros: A superb value in the "Deluxe Economy" class seats. Good airline food!
Cons: Limited routes available.
The Bottom Line: If you're traveling to/from Taiwan and the USA, this is the airline to fly. Must opt for the special "Deluxe Economy" seats.

| theinnergeek's Full Review: EVA Air |
I'm the kind of leisure traveller who enjoys being at my destination -- not getting there. Long airline flights in particular sap my soul. In flying from the West Coast to Taiwan, I subject my 6-foot body to a real test of endurance.
Thank heavens then for EVA Air. Why has everyone praised this airline? Because of EVA's special "Deluxe Economy" class of seats. Just a couple of hundred bucks more per person roundtrip than coach, deluxe economy gives you near-first class treatment. That's a bargain by any measure, especially for international travel.
Deluxe Economy's features:
+wider and cushier seats compared to coach
+elevating footrests and disposable slippers
+little cloth bags that contain hand lotion, a travel toothbrush kit, and a sleeping eyepad cover
+color video screens embedded in the backs of all seats; you have your own video monitor to watch movies (free of charge)
Other plusses worth mentioning:
+On the aforementioned video monitors, there's a channel that shows a constantly updating map of your flight's progress across the seas and continents. You see a little graphic representation of the jetliner and an arc tracing its glidepath. There are numbers indicating airspeed and time-left to landing. I stared at this channel for what seemed like hours on end :-)
+The food is actually good! I have fairly high standards for restaurant food (I've lived most recently in San Francisco and Seattle, two culinary hotspots) and detest most airline food. But their Chinese dishes were pretty darn decent. I tried one Western meal once, and it was sub-standard. Stick to the Chinese choices.
+Hungry when they're not serving meals? No problem. Ask a flight attendant for a cup of instant noodles and a pair of disposable chopsticks. How cool is that?
+The flight attendants were very sweet and most spoke both English and Mandarin fluently enough. And it was cute how they all bowed at the end of the journey to thank the passengers for allowing us to be served by them.
One negative that's totally trivial but worth mentioning because everyone who flies EVA Air notes it: The company's color scheme. It's the most sickening shade of bright green you've ever seen applied to suits, skirts, signage, and lettering. They need a fashion makeover!
