My only regret about Midwest Express Airlines is that they don't offer more flight options from my home airport, Eppley Airfield in Omaha. If I had my way, I would choose Midwest Express for every flight I take to any city.
Since Washington, D.C., is one of the primary destinations from the Omaha airport, our senators and congressmen are constantly occupying the cushy leather seats on Midwest Express' spacious aircrafts. Every seat is high backed leather, and there's enough leg room for Michael Jordan. There is no "coach class" on this airline. Every seat is first-class style.
My family and I enjoyed a flight to Washington, D.C. a couple of years ago. It was a breakfast flight, so we were treated to fluffy cheese omelettes, a thick slice of juicy ham, fresh fruit, warm banana bread, fresh orange juice and -- champagne! I normally don't have champagne breakfasts, but I accepted the bubbly and made myself a Mimosa cocktail. What a lovely way to start the day!
Their fresh, warm, chewy chocolate chip cookies are offered all day long, regardless of the meal time. Who says you can't have cookies for dessert with breakfast? Not Midwest Express!
Flight staff were highly attentive without being annoying. There is a more leisurely pace here, because the flights aren't as crowded since the larger seats mean fewer passengers.
You may even find love on Midwest Express! Former Nebraska Congressman Jon Christensen met his future wife, 1997 Miss America Tara Dawn Holland, on a flight from Washington to Omaha. It was a standard trip for Christensen, but Miss America was visiting for a literacy fund raiser. They struck up a romance on the flight, and married after she retired her crown.
On my trip home, Senator Chuck Hagel, now on the short list as a V.P. candidate for Bush, was on board.
Since so many Midwest Express flights go to the nation's capitol, there's a chance that if you book a ticket, you might run into one of your elected officials on the flight you take. Just think of the possibilities -- you could have a couple of hours with that senator who never answers your letters or returns your phone calls as a captive audience!
Seriously, however, I'm certain you will truly enjoy your Midwest Express experience, even if the ticket price is slightly higher. It's worth every cent. They even have current magazines on board! That's what I call class!
