I too adore the Galaxy - I was on her inaugural cruise in 1996. And sailed her on an Alaska itinerary in 1997. The comment about the Oasis Cafe is somewhat mis-leading. All cruise ships that offer an "alternative" dining room demand separate reservations, with a cut off time. This policy can be found on luxury cruise lines too, such as Crystal and Radisson Seven Seas. The reason for the cut off time is for food prep, and staffing issues. A good relationship with the front desk, or with your cruise director would have made getting a reservation put in for you an easy task. Cruise lines want you to be happy, and as a rule of thumb - it's just a matter of finding the right person to get the job done to your satisfaction. Just curious on the room menu issue - did you ask for anything that wasn't printed on the menu? I have had great success by simply saying that I don't see anything I like printed, do they have any suggestions to offer? Glad you liked the ship and the cruise line, it's simply my favorite - and I have been on over 20 ships.

Cruising Alaska Opinion (Reply to this comment)

Good review. Gave lots of details that would really help if you have never been on a cruise. I appreciated the comments about the massage, hair and nails salons. I thought this review stayed right on target and gave the type of information one would want to know about the cruise ship; i.e. room details, restauants and meals, ship activities, etc.
