You may have heard about some delicious Thai foods from Thai restaurants in your country. Don't believe that you have already tasted real Thai foods until you come here and try it yourself. I would like to recommend you some of them here. My 'farang' (foreigner)'s friends like it, so I think you may like it too. Most of them can be found at the common Thai restaurant.
Tom Yam Kung Off course this is the most famous Thai cuisine around the world. For people who may not know what it is, it is a spicy and sour shrimp soup. This is very delicious and you should try this first if you've never tried the other kind of Thai food before.
Som Tum It is a raw papaya chopped roughly and mixed with tomato, lime juice, fish sauce, sugar.. etc.. This is a raw dish so be careful if you may get stomachache sometime. It originally came from North-Eastern part of Thailand. We usually eat it with sticky rice and grilled chicken wings or drums.
Moo Sa Tae Actually I think this is derived from Indonesia. Moo Sa Tae is a yellowish (because of the turmeric) pork grilled with coconut milk on fire from charcoal. We eat this with 2 kinds of sauce and some toast.
Nam Prick Many kinds of spice and chili mixed together, eat with boiled vegetable or fresh vegetable. This is natural Thai taste. It is a bit hot. Be careful.
Panang Moo/Kai/Nuer Moo is pork. Kai is chicken. And Nuer is beef. You can apply this words to another kind of foods too such as Tom Yam Kai. (Kung is shrimp.) This is another spicy food that you should try.
Phad Thai Noodles fried with eggs, spice, shrimps, and vegetable. You can easily find this at Khao Sarn Road. Anyway, if you want to try a very good Phad Thai, you should try to eat it in a fine restaurant.
Tom Kha Kai Similar to Tom Yam Kung, but it is not so spicy. Tom Kha usually added up some ginger and coconut milk. Another kind of soup that you should try.
Kang Phet Ped Yang Roast duck chopped into small pieces and cooked with coconut milk, spice, and chili. This is very delicious one that you may be served only in real Thai restaurant.
Kang Kheaw Wan Kai This is a soup that cooked from chicken, coconut milk, egg-plant, basil, spice, and chili. Common Thai food, you can find it anywhere.
Kang Pha Kai This is the most spicy soup in Thailand, I think. If you think you can eat spicy food you should try it once in your life.
This introductory list is just only some of the common Thai foods that you can find when you are travelling around Thailand. Actually there are so many kinds of Thai food to be described. When you go to the North or South, you may meet different kinds of food that vary from place to place. Please feel free to try. 8-)
