Chile is one of the most beautiful countries in South America. Its great for sightseers. The Andes mountains are much more impressive during the winter season in Chile. From Santiago ( the capital and largest city) if there during winter, the snow covered Andes add a beautiful sight to Santiago and its surroundings. Unless you are going with a group of friends, Santiago and much of Chile is very boring ( atleast for me it was). The nightlife is very vague. Santiago is nice to sightsee for one day only. Santiago has good history to it if history interests you alot. If staying in Santiago for a couple of days, take a day tour to Valparaiso and Viņa del Mar which is a 2 hour drive from Santiago. Viņa del Mar I have to say has much better nightlife then any other city in Chile. Good casinos and the most unique, beautiful beach you will ever see ( but very cold water, be prepared for long time goose bumps). Valparaiso is very British and again, full of history. These day tours can be arranged from your hotel if coming from Santiago. Chile is also a very costly country ( especially Viņa del Mar) and so are its tours, be prepared. A day tour can cost as much as $50.00. Traffic in downtown Santiago is crazy if you are driving, walking is much better. Santiago is also a very clean city ( the cleanest I have every seen). The apartment buildings in which people live in are beautifully decorated with gorgeous flowers. If looking for a typical Chilean dish at a restaurant, don't waste your time, I looked and looked and found none. Almost all they have are chicken, rice, and french fries. All the other restaurants are international and not Chilean. My advice to travel to Chile, go with as many people as possible, be prepared money wise, don't spend too much time in Santiago ( Chile is big and much more to do), and don't skip seeing Valparaiso and Viņa del Mar ( by the way they are 15 minutes aprt from each other). Enjoy the trip and hope my advice comes well for any of those reading it and planning to go to Chile.
