Pros: No shortage of things to see wonderful places to eat and good ole Southern Hospitality.
Cons: Hot and humid in the summer and fewer activities for children than adults.
The Bottom Line: Don't pick July for your visit and you'll have a wonderful time. People are friendly, food is wonderful and there is always something to do.

Birmingham, okay so it's not your first choice for a family vacation but if you have business in the area or are visiting family or friends there is no end to the list of places to visit. I have lived in the area for most of my life and some of these places are well known and some are just small but well worth your time.
1-The Whistle Stop Cafe - Irondale about a 15 minute drive from the airport. The place that Fried Green Tomatoes originated and still served. Wonderful service, menu and quality at a very small price.
2-The Golden Rule - Irondale again, not far away and not hard on the wallet. BBQ chicken, ribs, pork and beef served with fries cut daily or homemade onion rings. Get ready because you will need the extra napkins.
3-Nikki's West - Birmingham almost across from the Farmer's Market. Food served cafeteria style with tons of choices and so much variety. If it's ever been served on Grandma's Sunday dinner table it probably is being served here daily. Quality, cost and friendly service can't be topped.
If eating isn't your favorite venue don't miss out on seeing the Vulcan, Botanical Garden's, The Birmingham Zoo, The Summit Shopping Area, The Pinnacle Shopping District or the many other wonderful places in the city.
