My Massachusetts family and friends thought I was a little crazy moving to the heart of Texas when I first told them. They had stereotypes of wranglers and 10-gallon hats on the brain and thought every one would be as conservative like G.W. Bush.
Now that I have been here a little while they have changed their opinion. Austin has become one of the top cities to live in and visit. Every time you turn around you hear it being listed with San Francisco and NYC as the best place for young, intelligent professionals to find great employment and a satisfying lifestyle. Austin has always been a great little city and it’s evolving into a great big city.
For some this isn’t a positive change because they miss the cheap artsy music and college town of yesterday that remind me of Boulder or Burlington. Now Austin is growing fast and people are flocking here for the explosive growing high tech. industry and other business. Skyscrapers are going up and expensive condos are going in and we are growing.
With that growth however comes more restaurants of better and better quality and more venues for live music making us even more the live music capital of the world. Austin is growing and getting better and still remains one of the greatest places in the United States to live. So whether you’re looking for a great place to visit or a wonderful place to call home give Austin a look. It’s the first place I have ever really wanted to stay.
