If you want good family fun go to Idlewild Park located in Ligioner, Pennsylvania. It's a great place to take the whole family, especially if you have small children that are too little for the bigger amusement parks.
The park opens at 10 AM and closing depends on weather conditions and the crowd. From my experiences it usually closes around 10:30PM. Admission is 19.95 , senior citizens are 14.50 and children under 2 are free. There is free parking. There are picnic areas if you want to pack a picnic. You can rent strollers, wagons, and wheelchairs. The park is open at the end of May through the beginning of September.
The park is made up of seven themed areas.
SOAKZONE- This area is an awesome water park! They have 14 wild waterslides. There is even a 4 head-first racing slide. There is a fun water activity area also. In this area there is a huge bucket of water that holds hundreds of gallons of water, you can stand under it and it tips over spilling the water out all over everyone. There is also a huge pool . There are nice changing facilities that they keep clean and well maintained. There is also a locker area to keep your belongings while your there.
OLDE IDLEWILD- Here you'll find 16 major rides- Rollo Coaster, Ballon Race, Paratrooper, Trinado, Caterpillar , Skooters, Ferris Wheel, Super Roundup, Spider, Mad Scrambler, Wild Mouse, Tilt-A-Whirl, an antique Merry Go Round, and the Whip. Most of these rides are suitable for smaller children also. There are lots of games in this area to win prizes. There is even an old fish pond game where my son won a big Bear in the Big Blue House stuffed animal for only 50 cents! There is nightly entertainment at the Hillside Theater in this area. They put on great shows! They are mainly musicals.
MISTER RODGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD- This is so cool! There is a life size trolley that you ride on through the neighborhood. Along the way you get to meet the characters like King Friday X111, Lady Elaine, Daniel and more. At the end of the trolley ride you get to have a hug and song party. It's cute and your little ones will love it! It's just like on tv.
RACOON LAGOON- This area is for small children. There are 13 rides here for the kids- Big Rascals, Cattail Derby, Pollywog Regatta, Rainbow Wheel, Dino Soars, Doodlebug, Red Baron, Rickey's Racers, Flivvers, Little Rascals, Scampers, Turtles, and Motorcycles. There is a stage with children's shows. This is one of the largest kiddie lands in the U.S.
What I found to be really nice too is that this whole area is smoke free.
STORY BOOK FOREST- Here you can walk through the paths and meet your favorite storybook characters. There are different structures from the stories such as the old woman in the shoe, and many, many more. They have people dressed as the characters that you can meet. Children can see their favorite stories come to life.
JUMPIN' JUNGLE- This area is so fun. It's a place where children and parents can play together. They have a HUGE ballpit. Theres a giant net you can climb to the top of a three- story tree house, or if your afraid to climb they do have steps. When you get up to the top there is a swinging bridge you walk over , a tarzan swing and a tube slide to get back down. There is a area where they have tubes with air blowing out and you can balance the balls on the air- the kids find this very interesting.
There is so much to do in this park , it's hard to see everything in one day. We made 2 Visits to Idlewild this year and my son wanted to go again. The next time you want a nice place to take the whole family for a day of fun consider Idlewild Park - you wont be sorry.
