| sharonMH's Full Review: Idlewild Park |
Idlewild park was the first amusement park I had ever been to. I have always lived quite close so every year the school picnics were held there up until the early 90's when they were moved to Idlewilds neighboring park Kennywood (which I will be reviewing as well). I have so many fun memories of spending hot summer days in this park hidden amongst the trees.
Idlewild is a small and quaint park but it's full of fun. Most of the park has this old fashioned theme to it which gives it this certain charm. I love the fact that it hasn't been turned into one of these giant parks with steal coasters everywhere and just a noisy mass of people but instead it's a quiet family place with an old wooden coaster a carousel and classic rides like bumper cars, the whip, and a ferris wheel. I do however believe the highlight of the park is good old story book forest. I remember being the tender age of 4 and dragging my mother over there every time we went. Storybook forest is where fairytales come to life. The houses of old woman who lived in the shoe and peter peter pumpkin eater are real and you can actually go inside them. It's a great place for kids.
More modern attractions in the park are the newly refurbished water park with a giant pool and tons of slides and weird water gadgets. A few new rides here and there. Mr. Rodgers neighborhood which is a popular trolly ride based on the childrens television show, and of course the food. The food is everywhere. Funnel cakes, pizza, pasta, ice cream, and the classic potato patch fries.
Idlewild is a wonderful theme park and a great way to spend one of those hot summer days. Pack up the kids and head on out to Idlewild the place with the old fashion fun and charm, you wont regret it.
