| Tokada's Full Review: Paramount's Kings Dominion |
I will be the first to admit it; I'm not one of you hardcore rollercoaster people. I enjoy rollercoasters and will go on them, but I don't try to break any records or see how many times I need to ride before I vomit. I just enjoy them. I'm not seeking any extreme headrushes, but I still ride the rollercoasters as long as they are fun. To me, certain rollercoasters just aren't fun. Paramount Kings Dominion has just about the right amount of fun rollercoasters. There aren't many that will make you sick, but the rides aren't for little kids either.
The rollercoasters are, of course, the main attractions at Paramount Kings Dominion. There are other things to do, but the rollercoasters are by far the best things there. There are a lot of different types of coasters for everyone.
Rebel Yell
I always begin my day at Kings Dominion with a ride on the Rebel Yell. It is a pretty basic wooden rollercoaster with only really one main drop, right at the beginning. Other than this drop, there really is nothing too scary about the ride, just a few twists and turns. The special thing about this ride is that you can go forwards and backwards. Forwards is actually more scary. When you go down that first main drop you always clench up because of the first shock of feeling weightlessness. I am not sure of the miles per hour you go or the height of the drop, but it always scares me. And when you can see the drop, you feel a lot more scared. I always doubt the rollercoaster and feel like the harness won't hold me in, but that is just ridiculous. Backwards feels scarier at first, but once you start going it isn't as scary, and I think more fun. Just try both ways, they are both really fun.
Hurler/Grizzly
The Hurler and the Grizzly, the other wooden rollercoasters besides the Rebel Yell, sort of mix into one ride for me. They are both wooden coasters that aren't that fun. Hurler is in the Wayne's World section and Grizzly is in the section near the Log ride and a lot of the water rides, right through the misty vine tunnel. They both have sharp turns that sort of hurt your sides when you are in the car. I don't really recommend these rides; they aren't that fun. Nothing in particular sticks out in my mind, just a bunch of turns.
Anaconda
The Anaconda is my favorite ride at the park. There is never really too long of a line, and it is just a fun rollercoaster. Quite often you never even have to leave your seat in between rides, you can just keep going because no one is waiting. I wonder why? The ride goes under water in a tunnel and the corkscrew section is really fun.
Volcano
Every single time I go to Kings Dominion, this stupid ride is closed. It looks like it would be fun, but it is always closed.
Flight of Fear
This ride is pretty fun, but not that scary. You can't even tell where you are going because the ride is in complete darkness. This rollercoaster rockets off at the beginning and really hurts your neck. You have to keep your head against your headrest at all times. There are a lot of twists and stuff, but I can't tell of any in particular because you are in total darkness the whole time. The ride is still pretty fun, but the lines are always really long. I recommend only going if the lines are short enough.
Shock Wave
I haven't been on this ride. The lines are always really long and the ride is really short. It looks pretty scary because you are standing up the whole time. Go if the lines allow you to.
I think this is all the rollercoasters, at least that I know. I read in some reviews there is a rollercoaster called the Avalanche, I don't know what they are talking about. I haven't seen this ride at all. Is it hidden or something? There is also this boat thing and this huge bungee thing. The boat doesn't look that scary, but you couldn't pay me to go on the bungee thing, it also costs extra money.
Besides the rollercoasters there are some waterides. Diamond Falls, the Log Ride, and one where you are in a raft type thing, I can't remember its name, are all pretty fun. But you better get prepared to get wet because you will. Not completely drenched, but enough to be uncomfortable in. The lines are never that long. There is also a whole water park, I haven't been there but it looks pretty fun.
Besides rides there is other stuff: an arcade, games, and food. I wouldn't come to Kings Dominion to go to an arcade, but some might. The games are a bunch of traps, don't waste your money. The food is all right, but way too expensive. One thing you should do is the bumper cars. They are pretty short, but the line is never too long and they are fun.
There is also some kids zone, I don't know much about that. But it is good for little kids.
Kings Dominion is pretty cheap for a whole day, excluding wasting your money on games and the overpriced food. There is always parking and it is pretty close to a lot of major cities. I go there early in the summer so I can avoid the huge crowds, so it is never too crowded. Overall, Kings Dominion is a fun day.
