Pros: great slides, good crowd management
Cons: overpriced (but every park is); pavement hurts bare feet
The Bottom Line: Though the walkways may give you sore feet, an abundance of slides and pools will keep you cool and happy all day long.

| shadowcat's Full Review: Water Country |
Water Country is just south of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, about an hour north of Boston, Massachusetts. With 12 water slides, a wave pool, a river, a giant whirlpool, and two children's areas, it has quite a variety of fun for anyone willing to get wet.
They seem to have every kind of slide; bare-back twisting and straight slides, single and double tube slides, a straight double tube slide, raft rides, tunnel slides, a straight headfirst mat slide (that one was *great* fun). Probably my favorite slide was Warp 8, a double-tube twisting tunnel slide. Its twin, Black Hole, goes down in a pitch-black tunnel that is just terrifying enough!
The thing that impressed me most about the park was the crowd management; on a hot sunny Saturday in July we never waited more than 10 minutes to get on a slide, and frequently the wait was 5 minutes or less. They kept us going through the slides quickly, but never so quickly that I felt in any danger of running over or being run over by someone at the bottom (as I have in other places).
The biggest problem I had at the park was that of sore feet; the entire park is paved with asphalt, and while it is relatively smooth and painted light green on the heaviest thoroughfares to reflect some of the heat, it still takes its toll on bare feet pretty quickly. There were signs for foot-misters (little water jets along the walk that cool your feet) in a couple places, but I didn't actually see any on, which didn't help. So you may want to invest in some water-safe sandals or slippers before coming.
The price ($27 admission plus overpriced food) was also a downside, but Water Country really isn't much more expensive than other places in its class. It's just expensive enough that I probably won't go again for a couple of years; if admission were $15, I would probably go two or three times a year.
