| bj108423's Full Review: National Aquarium in Baltimore |
I have lived in Baltimore my whole life and I have been to the Aquarium maybe ten times. The exhibits are great from the very beginning to the very end. I think along with most people, my favorite would be the dolphin show. I think the Aquarium here in Baltimore has got to be one of the biggest and most attractive spots to visit in our city.
But aside from all the oohs and ahhs of the attractions, I'd like to mention my frustration and extreme dislike for other reasons. My first turn off from the aquarium would be on any given day, the crowd is unbelievable. I think there should be a much smaller number of people allowed inside at any one time. On one occasion, there were so may people in an area, I had to pick my son up to keep him from getting squashed or lost in the crowd. We didn't get to see anything. We were packed in so tight we could barely move. The heat was unbearable. I don't know if that was due to the crowd or because the air wasn't on, but things were very bad. And this just wasn't on one occasion. That was the worst that I had seen it, but it is always crowded. I feel like we can never take our time and see what we want. It's always a battle and a race to beat the other people walking up to see the next glass.
One of my other dislikes is the cost of admission. With my previously mentioned issue in mind, I hardly think I get my 'money's worth' when I go into a place like that, and spend most of my time saying 'Excuse me' or trying to look around someone's head. It roughly costs $50 just for my family to get inside. For the admission costs alone, I feel that visitors should have more room to view the exhibits without having to be shoulder to shoulder with someone who is stepping on your toes to see a fish.
Don't get me wrong. I love the Aquarium and I think it's a great place to go. But I am discouraged from going more often than I do for that reason. I understand that the National Aquarium has some of the best technology in the world for the marine animals. And they also have some great marine biologists and others working there to help maintain the animals and their habitat. I know they need to pay their bills, but I think they should lower the number of people that enter at one time so that each person can see, learn and appreciate the marine life they paid to see.
