Breckenridge is a great area to visit both in the summer and winter. During the winter there is generally lots of great skiing as well as a complete compliment of other winter activities; skating - indoors and outdoors, sleigh rides for dinner or just a short trip, snow mobiles, great shopping, and fantastic restaurants.
For a family ski vacation I particularly enjoyed the varying terrain. Skiers of different abilities can ski together yet still enjoy hills that challenge. Beginner, intermediate and expert ski runs are often on the same hill. It makes it a fun experience for the entire family. It also is great for an improving skier to try a little tougher terrain with the ability to 'bail out' back to a hill more at the skiers ability level.
The town is great place to stay with a lot of different types of accomodations. There are some ski in / ski out but most require some sort of transportation, especially at night for dinner. There are a lot of restaurants with almost every type food in the town. I would recommend Cafe Alpine as the best food and Eric's as the best hamburger / pizza place. The shops are great to pick up t-shirts or a complete mountain outfit. Most shoppers would also enjoy the outlet mall in Silverthorne only 15 minutes away.
In general there is more than enough for the entire family to enjoy - whether they all enjoy skiing or not.
