| Salr01Moon's Full Review: Beauty and the Beast |
Last week, while a bunch of friends and I visited New York City, we had the opportunity to see Beauty and The Beast on Broadway. Before leaving our hotel, we were discussing the possiblity that this production may be a bit on the childish side because it was based on a Disney film. I mean, what can you expect by a bunch of 16/17 year olds :)
As soon as the the curtains opened, I was drawn in by the harmony of the music. I soon became captivated by the scenery and soon all of the colorful characters.
In the first scene, you learn about how the Beast becomes what he would be destined to be unless he learned to love another. The story is all based on the Disney movie, with the acception of many songs being added to make the play more colorful and longer. This production is about a Beast, who was once a prince, that wants to learn to love so that he can become human once again. On the other side, there is a french girl named Belle, who is always searching for a world of excitment, and adventure, and to find someone to love. On a journey to a nearby village, her father gets lost and ends up at the Beast's enchanted castle. On a search for her father, Belle takes his place instead and decides to live at the castle forever. During this time, Belle and the Beast find love for each other, with the help of some objects, including the most famous, the candlestick, Lumiere.
I was very taken by this play, especially my friend Zahrah. At the end of the play when the Prince and Belle are dancing, Zahrah was crying, it touched her that much. If you are ever in New York, please stop by and see this production, it was the most beautiful production I had ever seen.
