| ArtMom's Full Review: Beauty and the Beast |
This summer, my lucky daughter (Candice923) won tickets off of WLTW to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. She brought me, my eldest niece Elisandra and her best friend Dionne (Dionne25). What a treat!
Since working as an art teacher for nearly 20 years, I have been involved with creating sets for school productions. Since my daughter is so involved with theater, I have also been involved with creating sets for her shows. I know firsthand how difficult it is.
Everyone knows the story of Beauty and the Beast. Everyone knows that it is done by Disney. You don't know, unless you've actually seen the show, how incredible the sets are. Never in my life have I seen such a breathtaking display of artistry. The colors! The architecture! The special effects! The costumes! I have never seen anything like this in my life. Maybe it can all be attributed to Disney, but it doesn't matter. The show is amazing.
Andrea McArdle played Belle. I remember seeing her as the original "Annie" years ago, so it was nice to see her once again. She and her counterparts were wonderful. I heard that Toni Braxton played Belle, but I can't imagine her in the innocent role with such a sultry voice. McArdle was phenomenal.
The company numbers were amazing. The way Lumiere(played by Patrick Page) "orchestrated" the number "Be Our Guest" was terrific. Quite honestly, this jaw-dropping, eye-popping number was my absolute favorite.
This production is good for children of all ages - from 9 to 99. The soundtrack is wonderful. The dancing is amazing. The acting is fabulous. I would definitely see this show again, should the opportunity arise.
