| artiste's Full Review: The Enchanted Tiki Room |
Enchanted Tiki Room is a a corny show at Magic Kingdom. This is a collection of more than 200 birds that tell wisecracks. They are automated birds, with wings flapping, singing flowers, totem poles and statues. The hosts of the show are Jose, Michael, Pierre, and Fritz.
Before you go into the show guests are treated to a little pre-show in the waiting area. You meet Iago from Aladdin and his voice is Gilbert Gottfried's. He complains about everything including birds being late for the show.
This is a tacky show and is not very likable. The theme song is very annoying and repeats over and over "Tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki...." There is a story line. Actually this show has been improved. The audio system has been upgraded. You can hear the corny jokes including Iago insulting the gods of Polynesia.
There is a cute touch. The birds sing " In the Still of the Night." All the Tiki icons in the room come to life and a disco ball swirls around. The Tiki's do rap, too.
The Tiki birds were the fist attempt for Disney to do audiotronics. This was in 1963 when a similar show was introduced at Disneyland. It must have gone over well because many shows since are done in audiotronics: Hall of Presidents, American Adventure, etc. Disney is great at audiotronic productions right down to every little detail.
This show is actually at the bottom of the list for attractions to see at Magic Kingdom. Leave this for last and see it only if you have time. There are many more exciting things to do and see.
