| chantc's Full Review: Eat Right 4 Your Type Diet |
My father has been a vegetarian for over 25 years now. Although he has not suffered any tremendous health problems, his diet has not alleviated certain afflictions. He started the "eat right for your type diet" and a
couple of weeks into it he bought the book for me. I am not a vegetarian, but I have always been attentive to my eating habits. I never believed
that red meat was bad for your body...I thought that there are no wrong foods, just inappropriate amounts.
After reading the book, which was a little dry for my taste, I realized
that there was some good science in there. In retrospect, I see now why I
actually craved foods that were beneficial to my type (A) and disliked
foods that the diet said to avoid. My body was speaking loud and clear.
There is nothing unhealthy about the diet per say. I have debated with
friends about the carbohydrate restrictions and/or alternatives...My
girlfriend argues that she cannot possibly adhere to a diet that says
all kinds of wheat should be avoided. She also argued that tomatoes are
beneficial in preventing cancer and so forth. She basically trashed the
diet because she did not comprehend the exclusions and she did not want
to cook 4 different meals every night for her family. (To that, I would
have to agree.)
In essence, I believe the diet/food choices I have adhered to now for
4 months have been challenging. Omitting tomatoes has been extremely difficult because I preferred a Mediterranean diet in the past. However, I have discovered a whole slew of really healthy and nutritious things to eat that were not mentioned in the book. (I thank my father's experience as a vegetarian for that)
The first 2-3 weeks were killers. I noticed my behavior was changing.
The stress of the restrictions and having to check "this and that" in the book were getting me down. I experienced anxiety attacks for the first time in my life and was wondering if it was related to the diet. But I have stuck with it and no more attacks. The occasional dinner party here and there spoiled things but I simply continued the diet the following morning. I don't intend on depriving myself from some of the sinful pleasures in life for anything or anyone! Everything in moderation.
All in all, I'd have to say I feel energized, clear minded, and generally more intense about everything in my life.
I have ulcerative colitis and have been in remission for 9 years now.
Just before starting the diet, I was experiencing occasional flare-ups.
Maintaining the diet has significantly reduced the pain and bleeding.
NO MEDICATION REQUIRED. I am also prone to ovarian cysts and since being on the diet, the pain has subsided significantly. Not to mention the fact that I have not experienced one MIGRAINE headache since the diet either. YAHOO!
Socially speaking...Friends and family are still skeptical about this diet. Restaurant outings are challenging to say the least. People see the portions of rice and tofu I eat and ask if that's really a diet. I say no, it's a life choice.
If you are looking to lose weight only...this diet may not be for you.
Weight loss has been nominal and not so apparent to date.
If you are looking to heal yourself and respect the gift and joy your body gives to your life, this book could start you on the right path.
It is truly amazing how food can medicate and heal you.
In turn, you must also be aware of how it can poison you.
The book gets two thumbs up from me!
