| heath111's Full Review: Sugar Busters! |
I decided to try this diet after my daughter was born. Since I was nursing her, I needed to find a diet that could supply me with all my nutrients and still help me to slowly peel off the excessive weight I had gained.
Unlike other people, I find this diet to be very healthy if I choose to make it healthy. My husband and I switched from white breads, rice, and pasta to whole or stone ground wheat. I feel this is a very healthy way of life. We were eating lots of vegetables, some fruit, whole grains, some cheese and milk, and some meat. I think if someone interprets this diet to mean that he or she can eat bacon and eggs every day then there will be health consequences but for me, I found it just helped me pick the very best of the foods to each food group.
I didn't find the portions to be restrictive at all. In fact, I found myself to not be hungry often. I did have cravings for the first week or so but those also disappeared. I made sure I had a snack in the morning and the afternoon, usually a piece of fruit or some Triscuits, and felt satisfied for the day. In 6 months I lost about 30 lbs. I feel that is a healthy and safe weight loss for that period of time. I lost quite a bit the first 2 or 3 weeks and then it slowed to a little less than a pound a week.
The best result of this diet was that I felt great. Once again, if someone interprets this diet to be a diet based on high fat protein, then I don't think he would be feeling great. I, however, felt wonderful when I was not eating any sugar.
Over the holidays I just couldn't do it. After an evening of sugar eating I didn't feel so hot. Although I occasionally slip now and then and have some sugar, I am trying to keep the principles learned in the book en"grained" into my eating habits.
I would recommend this to anyone that is trying to lose weight. It may not work but it isn't going to hurt anyone to eat whole grains and no sugar.
