Pros: Comfort, sheer A to B brilliance Cons: Weight, width
This is The Daddy. A Total Ubherfuhrer of motorcycle touring. I’m sure that there’s no other bike that can match its single minded focus of demolishing thousands of miles in comfort in the least possible time. That includes the Goldwing. The Goldwing ...
Pros: quality, style, performance, exclusivity, features Cons: sparse dealer network, poor kickstand and turn signal design, pricey, no intercom
*Updated October 8, 2003)(See below) BMW has taken on the bogey in the luxury motorcycle touring marker the Honda Gold Wing. Does it win or lose?.......well yes. I am now a 51 year old male who has been riding on and off since I was in my late t ...
Pros: Comfortable, beautiful, luggage space, handling, brakes Cons: Poor kickstand, poor low speed stability and turning, no intercom
My lovely wife and I bought a new 2001 K1200LT in August for a cross-country move. We went about 8000 miles in two months and I've used the bike for about 2 months since then as my city transportation.
Pros: fit/finish exudes quality, excellent motor and suspension, great stereo, fuel efficient, many extras, automobile-smooth! Cons: accessory pricing, lack of reliable communications system, high maintenance costs, difficult to work on, automobile-smooth!
After spending a few years riding insanely fast Japanese sport bikes I decided it was time to try a bike with a different mission: touring. I did quite a bit of research, looking at primarily offerings from Honda and BMW. I looked at the Honda ST1100,...
The K1200LT has all the comfort and options that you could possibly want. The sound system is speed sensitive which means the volume will increase and decrease with an increase or decrease in your speed. This enables the rider to concentrate on driving...
Pros: Engine smoothness & performance, handling and comfort Cons: Low speed handling and accessory costs
After dominating the luxury touring market for the past quarter century, Honda and its ubiquitous Gold Wing GL1500 finally has some serious competition: the BMW K1200LT.
Having owned a Wing, I can vouch for its competence and reliability. But...
Pros: Great Bike, nothing wrong with them. Cons: NONE!
This bike can be ridden anywhere. It's one of the best tourers of today in my opinion. If you're looking for a tourer with everything and anything that can take you anywhere and has the smoothest ride ever, this is the tourer for you. With a 6 CD...
Pros: Eyecatcher
Massive big thing,the best engine
A mile eater, just wants more and more. Cons: Radio is crap. You can not listen to it anyhow wearing integral helmet.
I am 51 living in Sweden, Stockholm. Started up with a lovely Cruiser, but got tired of the wind, rain, vibrations. Traded it in for a BMW 1150 RT, which was a great motorcycle, just did not fit to my character, and my way of relaxed driving. I bought t ...
Pros: Does everything a big touring bike should do Cons: Heavy at 0 mph - so keep it moving!
What a fantastic touring motorcycle! I moved up from the R11RT to get all the new bells and whistles - I never expected so much. Super comfort, for both rider and passenger. Heavy at 0 miles/hr, so it takes extra care at full stop to keep from...
Pros: Excellent gas mileage, very comfortable, great handling and a killer stereo! Cons: Heavy, normal first year pitfalls, tall seat, not enough riding days in the year!
When I drove my last motorcycle, a 1983 Yamaha venture, I had a small problem! After riding that bike for 230,000 miles, things were falling off! This as you know is both annoying and illegal! Therefore, I took the opportunity of looking around for a...
This bike is like a dream. The handling is so amazing due to the low center of gravity. Very easy to drive. The bike makes you feel like you are one with the road. It is a very nice bike and I would recommend it for almost anyone. Some people would say...
Pros: king of all motorcycles. BMW; you know it is quality Cons: could use brilliant paint (except the beautiful pacific blue and titan silver)
just got a 2000 in canyon red (a beautiful but no longer available color).
look out when you speed up, the only way you can get an accurate idea of how fast you are going or accelerating is to look at the speedometer. and it happens real fast.

Could of bought 5 bikes for $$ of K1200..but by tswoodley ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: Smooth, quiet, 6 gallon tank, good looking bike. Greatly engineered bike. Cons: Heavy; parts, labor from dealer very $$$; accessories very expensive; radio poor
This bike is a beast, but once it gets moving its like nothing else. Smooth, quiet, just like sipping fine scotch.
Good torque from first to fifth, (could use a sixth to lower RPM at 65 mph). Plan on calling 2 or 3 friends over if it ever tips, over 800 lbs wet. Once I got use to the size, cornering at low speeds handles like a sport bike. Radio lacks power and is over complicated. Speakers, front and back, are poor. Heated seats and grips make chilly rides quite tolerable.
Best Touring Bike Period! by lawman177 ,Dec 22 '03
Pros: Styling, best fuel economy, standards like electric windshield, heated seats/grips, cd/cassette player and ABS brakes. Cons: expensive dealer maintenance but you can do it yourself and save money.
I been riding for 30 plus years and this BMW is the best yet. Smooth engine responce with the comforts of an electric windshield and heated seats/grips. The stereo radio casestte/cd player tops it off to the comforts of home. The ABS brakes round off the best riding machine out there.
