Many pleasant surprises from Acura--though some shortcomings remain

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, power, chassis much improved, quiet, high content for the price, and styling
Cons: Rear seat room/comfort marginal, trunk tight, seat doesn't fold, less agile than others, price higher
The Bottom Line: Great looks and power. Handling good but not the best. Did I mention great looks? From Acura?

The 2003 Acura TL-S sold for two primary reasons: a wonderful 260-horsepower V6 and a lot of standard content for a low 30s sticker price. But few found its styling highly attractive and no review of the car failed to mention that its front-drive chassis ...

A Very Nice Car, But Better Than The Less-Expensive TSX? I Don't Think So.

by drive571 drive571 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200
Feb 23 '04 - Updated Nov 08 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy and classy interior, comfortable ride, supportive seats, option to shift your own gears.
Cons: Light and numb steering, lack of driver involvement, torque steer, no folding rear seat.
The Bottom Line: The new TL is a fine car, and a screaming bargain compared to European rivals, but is undermined by its even less-expensive and more fun-to-drive sibling, the TSX.

My Experience I test-drove a 2004 Acura TL 6-speed at a local dealership. My test drive lasted about forty-five minutes and covered city streets, freeways, and a huge isolated parking lot where I got to drive the car hard, away from traffic. ...

2004 ACURA TL: At Long Last! We Have a Winner!

by vara, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Muscular looks, excellent powertrain, tons of gizmos and features, best sound system I've heard.
Cons: FRONT WHEEL DRIVE LOTS OF HORSES = NOTICEABLE TORQUE STEER. (Minimized with A-spec upgrade!)
The Bottom Line: Acura's #1 seller has been made better several times over. Although still FWD, the 2004 TL is an unbelievable value and the new class leader in my book.

Forget Saddam being captured. Forget the landing on the moon, the tumbling of the Berlin Wall... my dad just bought a car! Now THAT'S news! Yes, my father finally laid to rest his 1991 Lexus LS400 and bought a new car. ... It ...

Chose the TL over the Infiniti G35

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Style, class, power, handling, interior, sound system.
Cons: Handbrake on wrong side of console. Door pockets won't hold a 6-pack.
The Bottom Line: One hell of a car. If you are looking in this class you must test drive the TL.

I had a 2004 Accord EX V6 (reviewed also on this sight) that was hit in the back end, so I decided even as new as it was to trade it in, and to trade up. In my online research, it came down to 3 cars that I wanted to see and drive before making a ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Striking good looks, quality fit and finish inside and out, quiet and comfortable, feature laden.
Cons: Sharp corners not its forte, freight train gearing, sportshift tranny takes its time executing shifts.
The Bottom Line: The TL is striking to look at, sit in, and is fun to drive. In the less than $35,000 price range it's nearly impossible to find a better sport sedan.

Ever since the auto show pictures of the new TL became available I decided to put my purchase of a new sport sedan on hold. I love some of the German cars but the maintenance cost and overall reliability just don't compare to the Japanese. Unfortunately, ...

Does the car I bought have torque steer?

by cdc0003
Jul 21 '04 - Updated Jul 24 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Tight build, interior layout, comfortable seats, 270 HP, Sound system. It's an eye catcher!
Cons: Slight torque steer, Suspension squeaks over bumps in morning
The Bottom Line: Buy it. Will likely hold its value very well. Well made vehicle.

Review Qualification: I purchased my 2004 TL in March 2004 and have driven it just over 3000 miles. In answering the torque steer question I spent a lot of time driving around trying to find a long level surface to perform my tests. 99% of the roads ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Incredible value, interior luxury and quality, styling, acceleration, ride
Cons: transmission lag
The Bottom Line: An amazing car at an amazing price!

I was never a huge fan of the previous generation Acura TL. The styling was boring, the interior was average, and the resale value was poor. However, the new 2004 Acura Tl, is one of my favorite car on the road regardless of price. I love Acura's new ...

Acura's New Definition of a "Sport-Luxury" Car

by MASTERNC
Dec 28 '03 - Updated Dec 30 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Lightning-fast performance, Honda quality inside & out, New & unique technology
Cons: Front-wheel drive limitations, passenger seat adjustments
The Bottom Line: For those who aren't set on European luxury, this car is a must-drive. You'll be happy (and you'll have more money in your wallet) in the end.

Honda and Acura have always been known for their powerful (yet small) engines and excellent quality. Acura has always tried to stay upscale of its corporate cousin; however, it has attempted to compete in a tight market segment usually dominated by ...

I Wish I Could Fall In Love With This Car

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Style, DVD Audio system, Excellent GPS, Bluetooth.
Cons: Lots of rattles and squeaks! Lack of road-feel and fun.
The Bottom Line: If you care about the driving experience, avoid the TL. If you like all sorts of bells and whistles, and you don't mind squeaks and rattles consider the TL.

I've owned a 2004 TL for about 3 months now. While I'm happy with some aspects of the car, I am disappointed in it overall. Let me describe as much of the car as possible, and my personal thoughts on each... STYLING There is no arguing that ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice styling, nice handling, very comfortable, very quiet. Fun to drive.
Cons: Very high number of repair incidents and extraneous cost to owner.
The Bottom Line: The car is really nice and a great ride. It is just very, very expensive to maintain. It seems fragile for what it is...

Bought the car new in November 2004, the A-Spec version. It was a replacement for a worn out '92 Legend 5-speed. Well, 80,000 miles later and I would have expected more. The car handles great, and is very quiet but just didn't seem up to the quality ...

2004 Acura TL - Quality car

by jgodlove
Feb 11 '08

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration, quality of interior, navigation system
Cons: Interior fuse lights, glove compartment box hinge breaking
The Bottom Line: This car is a great buy for anyone looking for a luxury sedan that still offers a lot of horsepower and acceleration and is fun to drive.

I bought an Acura TL back in 2004 and it was our first Acura in our family. I am happy to say we are very happy with the decision (seeing as we came from a 1996 Honda Oddessy). The car's performance is excellent and the acceleration is terrific. There ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: NONE
Cons: FRAUD
The Bottom Line: Acura wilfully defrauds every customer. Don’t waste your money. I wish someone had warned me. Life’s too short to suffer with an Acura.

Acura designs and manufactures disgustingly cheap products and misrepresents them as luxury cars. Acura wilfully defrauds every customer. Don’t waste your money. I wish someone had warned me. Life’s too short to suffer with an Acura. I made the ...

Overall love my car
by imlori444

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Horsepower,Handling,Appearance,Stereo System
Cons: Too many rattles, Rims too soft, Paint job
I have had the TL for almost 2 years now. I still love the styling and interior, and am still impressed with the sound system and horsepower of the vehicle. The biggest downfall is all the squeaks and rattles it has, and the shop can't seem to fix (front power windows are a major one). The rims are way too soft and get scratched easily, and the paint job isn't the best for such a high priced car. The voice recognition system is a little finicky, but when it works right, it is nice to have. I recommend the navigation system because it is easy to use and to see. Overall, a very nice car...if they could just have better "fit and finish", it would be almost perfect.

Pros: I love most everything. I love the heated seats.
Cons: Seat belt gets stuck, back windows are a bit small to look out of.
This is the best car I have ever owned. Its stylish, sporty, classy, and boy oh boy is it ever light on it's feet. I love all the features in it. The interior is roomy and the ride is quiet. I love all the lighted up stereo & steering controls.
