Onkyo TX-DS787 A/V Home Theater Receiver!

by surferdude7 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Aug 10 '01
Pros: It has everything needed for the Home Theater.
Cons: Price of $750 or more.
This is one of the most impressive home theater receivers I have come across. The appearance of it is smooth and clean, not overloaded with a lot of buttons. Though there are several buttons! It has a nice green LED display to let you know what your...

The Onkyo TX-DS787: For serious sound enthusiasts.

by symbiosis Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 22 '01
Pros: Dolby Digital, DTS, THX Select certified, high-current power, learning remote.
Cons: Could use more optical digital inputs.
I entered the world of home theater about a year ago. My first digital home theater receiver was the top of the entry-level line Sony. Hooked up to my Paradigm speakers, I was amazed. The sound was crisp, clean, and powerful. However, as I read more ...

Pros: Best home cinema stereo w/ THX
Cons: none found
I purchased this receiver 1 year ago. I originally had a Yamaha receiver. Once I hooked up the Onkyo I realized all the sound I was missing. I have Mission speakers which also sound great. The 6.1 surround sound engulfs you when watching a DVD. You...

An affordable, extremely solid solution

by lawyerboy , May 17 '03
Pros: Great sound; beautiful design; will last forever
Cons: Remote eats batteries
You know you've got a good piece of gear on your hands when the only negative thing you have to say is that the remote control eats batteries. This unit probably represents the single best investment I have ever made in my home theater/audio system....

TX-DS787 - Watch, Listen, Live The Movie! Updated....

by BOSSC351 , Mar 05 '02
Pros: Superior sound.
Cons: THX Select Certified Unit cratered in less than a year.
This is one superior audio component YOU MUST HAVE! 6.1 Dolby Digital, DTS, THX ES.... What else could you possibly want? "Oh, its not 7.1!" Add the M-282 and and you got 7.1 at half the price. Plays movies like Saving Private Ryan, Pearl Harbor,...

Outstanding receiver with 7.1 digital sound for under $1000

by masonpeter , Apr 30 '01
Pros: Thorough speaker setup and control for 6.1 or 7.1 digital sound.
Cons: Need additional amplifier for 7.1 digital sound.
Well built and very durable receiver. Strong and very rich output sound. The first receiver I own that I can setup via my TV screen. Setup menu is very easy to use and options are thorough when setting up speakers for 6.1 or 7.1 digital sound. There are...

Awesome reciever

by mrcmp , Aug 05 '01
Pros: DD/DTS 5.1 DDEX/DTS ES 6.1 and prologic decoding.
Cons: I have had unit go into protect mode
Excellent AV receiver no complaints. Does everything needed. DTS-ES (discrete) would have been nice, but DTS-ES (Matrix) and THX EX works for me. Not to mention there is not that much DTS-ES discrete software out yet. Works fine, sounds great and over...

Onkyo DS787

by hifi-rich , Jan 12 '02
Pros: Excellent quality, full range A/V receiver for home theatre at less than $1000.
Cons: Forgot to list in specs that fan is thermostatically controlled
I researched Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo and settled for the DS-787 because it was THX-certified and offered all the input and output sources I needed. I am particularly interested in the component video sources and am convinced this is the best video...

Onkyo 787 delivers the goods!

by bunnybear , Jul 25 '01
Pros: Fantastic sound, logical & ergonomic remote, features galore, safety cutoff switching, looks fabulous!
Cons: Could do with more digital inputs at the rear.
Solid and well built. The power output is smooth yet powerful. The remote control is well thought out, lights up in the dark, fits well in the hand. Ease of switching between sources. The auto-cutoff is handy, as I've discovered when shorting speaker...

Best I've ever had!
by ongams ,Dec 26 '05
Pros: Great sound, great technology, great everything....
Cons: None
I've had mine for four years. Unbelievable quality and power. Hooked up to my 12" subwoofer, it shakes the chair I'm sitting on while watching Terminator III, Cellular, etc... This is my third Onkyo. I also have one in my office. Quality oozes from it. The sound quality is superb (take it from a professional musician).

Paid $799 for mine when it first came out, but was worth every penny. I have it hooked up to a pair of Cerwin-Vega D9's (grab them immediately if you can find them), Phase Technologies Power 12 subwoofer, a pair of DA rear speakers and two 6" oval speakers with tweeters, that were mounted on the side of an old Mitsubishi large screen TV, slaved together for the center. I have yet to hook up a center rear speaker. I can just imagine the sound then! I'll probably put my bed in the living room. Sure there are pricier brands, but why? This is already overkill for medium rooms. Spend the money you will save by buying this one, and buy more toys. Weeeeeee!!
