Pros: Price, 3-year warranty including battery, surge protection, software, plenty of jacks
Cons: N/A
With all the deals I saw recently on UPS devices, I went on a UPS-buying spree. I bought an APC BE350R for $20 (after rebate). I also bought the A
PC
BE500R for $30 with no rebates to replace my ...
Pros: Inexpensive, many power connectors, good spacing on 8 connectors to allow two small/medium power bricks. Cons: Fails randomly after a few months, only 4 plugs have Battery Backup, battery dies quickly
I went through two of these APC 350VA UPS units in the term of two years. Each UPS last about a year before it suddenly starts turning itself off every few days or weeks beeping loudly and flashing a red light requiring you to turn the unit on and off ...
Pros: none --- see Cons. Cons: Entire power supply shuts down suddenly while a computer session is on going. Work lost.
I bought the APC BE350R battery backup power supply at CompUSA on sale. I have to wonder if CompUSA knew that the socketss on the surge-protected-only side of the supply have poor wiring resulting in intermittent supply of electricity to those sockets ...
Pros: inexpensive, small, lots of plug-ins, both backup and surge and surge only. Cons: Not much time to run on battery. Marginal battery quality.
well, after owning this unit (two of them) plus two batteries..... This unit seems to be too light a unit to use if you have many additions hanging on your computer and a high wattage power supply. You might be able to get by but will have a very short ...
Pros: Very reliable. Gives me about 7 minutes of runtime during power sags and outages. Cons: Bigger than a surge protector. Because of the battery, shipping it costs bucks and bucks.
Battery backup / UPS units used to be reserved for business applications only, because of their high price. There is a real science behind these products and it takes a lot of R&D for a company to put out an effective uninterrupted power supply (UPS) ...
Pros: Easy to operate; economical. Cons: None, considering the price.
I bought this because we seem to have a power blip just about every other day. My cable modem, wireless router, and printer tend to get upset with the power blips, so I hooked them up to this product. Once the battery was fully charged (about 12 hrs), I unplugged it from the wall. The router, modem, and printer ran just fine for at 30 minutes. The printer was not printing, just in a steady state.
I did not install the "power management/shut-down" software that came with it. Don't need it; and the product has to be directly connected to a PC for it to work.
The back-UPS is doing exactly what I wanted it to do: just keep the internet connection alive during momentary power interruptions.
I don't have any info on how long the battery is expected to last.
Pros: Cheap Cons: - Poor design from APC - Better units available for lower prices
I've had to throw away three of these BE350R units in the past 6 months after they failed. New batteries were not the issue. The unit goes into an overload condition, with a very light load and does not allow a reset. I'm an EE and I tried many fixes and new batteries. APC are absolutely the worst designed UPS backups that I have used. We have other brands in identical environments and applications and I have had NO FAILURES with NON APC UNITS. Very frustrating, causing me to write.
