And you thought Hewlett Packard only made Personal Computers!

by Bryan_Carey Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Dec 02 '02
Pros: Very user- friendly
Cons: Display panel doesn't show the function you are performing
Financial calculators are a must for students of finance. It's possible to work out most finance problems by hand, or to use a time value of money table. But in a crunch, when you're taking a finance test and there is little time to spare, a financial ...

Pros: Easy to use, inexpensive compared to others, can do it all!
Cons: Can be hard to find.
I never thought I would use or need a business calculator. I had always seen my husband use his HP and could never understand any of the functions or equations that he would punch in so quickly on the key pad. I am now a full time student majoring in...

What worked great in college works just as great in the real world

by bmills313 , Nov 19 '02
Pros: Easy to use. Performs everyday financial functions no problem
Cons: Battery life leaves something to be desired
I purchased this calculator 4 years ago or so while I was a business/finance student in college. The reason I bought this particular model was that one of my finance books had tutorials for the 10B in each chapter and step by step operation of the...

HP 10b - I have abused this calculator for 5 YEARS!

by Bucks2lend , Sep 24 '00
Pros: very reasonably priced, unbreakable
Cons: can be hard to find. (try Officemax or similar)
The Hewlett Packard 10B financial calculator is a workhorse. Not only is it easy to use, but it is (in my best estimation) unbreakable!

I can thank my friends in the mortgage industry for turning me on to this amazing financial calculator....

Do NOT BUY HP 10B-II if you want a long lasting calculator!

by a4plus3vette , Jun 02 '05
Pros: - the button feel is great.
Cons: - Bad Bad Bad - do not buy - display fails early in useful life.
In 2001, I started studying to become a Certified Financial Planner. The school that I went through strongly recommended the HP 10B-II financial calculator. So I bought one. It worked well for just over a year and then the display started displaying ...

by caveatlector , Jan 03 '06
Pros: More straightforward method of calculation than classic HP calculators. Inexpensive.
Cons: The screen doesn't work after 2 years of use, which has rendered it inoperable.

Pros: Quick & easy to master, solid construction and design.
Cons: Minimal documentation outside of financial functions.

sadly can't recommend
by epratt ,Jun 06 '05
Pros: inexpensive; all the right functions and features
Cons: flimsy; display failed after only six months; buttons never worked well
I bought this calculator for two reasons: it offered all the functions and features that I wanted (of which there are many) and because of my trust, from long association, in the HP brand.

Sadly, I've been utterly disappointed with the workmanship of my 10BII: it has a flimsy feel to it; the buttons sometimes record two presses, sometimes none; the plastic body pops open frequently; and now, worst sin of all, the display is failing! OK, it wasn't very expensive, but this is ridiculous.

I've only owned this calculator for six months and now I'm off to the store to buy a new one. I will definitely think twice before I buy an HP again. So sad! I've used HP calculators for years -- my last HP calculator gave up the ghost only after suffering an extreme crushing, and I have ones from college that still work perfectly.
