This is a story of theft, misused shoes, and a heavenly pay-off.
Back in December, I stumbled across a deal I couldn't refuse–-a pair of ASICS Cumulus shoes for nothing more than the shipping—-a benefit of being a member of an online...
Pros: Cushioning, stability, weight Cons: Not for the very casual runner
It was the beginning of track season and I need a new pair of shoes! The local shoe superstore had gone out of business in my neck of the woods, so I tried my luck at a little running shoe shop, and I turned up a pair of Gel Cumulus running shoes, and I...
Pros: Good cushioning and ride; reasonable priced Cons: Not for those looking for motion control or a very light shoe
The Asics Gel Cumulus has everything I look for in a cushioned trainer - a comfortable fit with a fairly wide toebox and narrow heel, a good roll that propels you forward at the end of your stride, good durability, and, of course, lots of cushioning,...
Pros: Solid, Cushioned, and Durable Cons: A little bulky, maybe
The Cumulus was a my first pair of ASICS, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I needed a shoe that would get me through a few months of training without breaking down or causing me some sort of injury. And, when it was all said and done the Cumulus met all...
Pros: Cushioning, large toe box, great price Cons: None
I have been a fan of Asics athletic shoes for a long time, but purchased the wrong model for my foot type and running style. I had purchased the Asics Gel Century from a mall sports apparel store and hit the roads. After 250 miles and increasingly...
Pros: Good road pounders. Good looking. Cons: none.
Every few months my sloth disgusts me so much that I pull out the Asics and hit the road. Then I get the running religion for a month or so. (And then slip back into sloth for a month or so, of course...)
Pros: Light Cons: unbalanced feel, loose comfort after a few hard weeks of running.
Running 45-50 miles a week. Don't recommend doing this in this pair of shoes. My favorite pair of shoes were a pair of Asics Gels (originals). They don't make shows like that anymore. Although Asics dropped 3 million on a new running shoe. Hope they are worth the $160 they are going to sell for.
Pros: Great cushioning and stability for heavier runners at reasonable weight. Cons: Durability? Do not appear as sturdy as NB 1023's or Nimbus.
These replaced New Balance 1023's - a fairly sturdy and highly-rated cushioned shoe.
I slightly under-pronate with medium arches and weigh about 190. I am NOT biomechanically efficient - I pound along like a rhino. I need alot of cushion to avoid knee pain and shin splints. I run about 20km a week average and have done two half-marathons in the NB's - the Asics will see the same kind of mileage.
I've only done one short run in the Asics and can already tell they are the best shoes I've had. Tons of cush in the heel, better stability and cushioning in the mid-to-forefoot. The fit of the upper (for me) is better than the NB 1023's.
Pros: good for orthotics, not too stiff, feel great right away Cons: wear out kind of quickly
I LOVE these shoes!!
I had to switch shoes after I got orthotics and I went through several kinds before I found some i really liked.
These shoes are great for orthotics because the orthotics fit very nicely in them, and there is still plenty of room so your heels don't slip.
The cumulus is awesome because i feel like they really let you run naturally. They also feel great the first time you run in them. with some shoes, it feels like they make your feet slap the ground to hard or something and it takes a few weeks until they really feel like they are broken in. Its hard to describe, but I really like how the cumulus feels.
They are fairly light as well.
The one thing i do not like about them is that they wore out pretty fast. I got them at the end of August and i already need a new pair. Not sure what the total milage in them is, but I ran anywhere from 35-50 mpw in them in that time.
