Pros: Easy to see and reach controls, Cons: Paper tray sticks, confusing software for scanning.
It was time to replace my old HP printer, and so a shopping-I-did-go. I comparison shop for ages about anything, so it took me 6 months to choose this printer. You'd think I would have done a better job! My first concerns were that it have some ...
Pros: Great small office machine
Space saving profile Cons: Set-up can be tricky
I've been looking for months for a multi-function machine for a small office that could replace both my fax and printer. My old fax also served as an answering machine, so I needed that function as well. And because I use both a desktop and laptop, I ...
Pros: Inexpensive, looks nice, small footprint, large LCD display, nice copies, easy ink loading Cons: Paper tray sticks, phone quality poor, no USB cable, long set up time
I bought one of these on Nov 1, 2006. I was impressed with the number of features it offers at an inexpensive price. However, I ended up taking it back to store because of several problems. The main one was that the paper tray stuck in the machine. ...
Pros: Extensive feature set, wireless printing and batch scanning works beautifully. Cons: Poor quality scanning. Will not work unless it has all cartridges at least half filled.
I have this machine for about two weeks now and I have used it quite extensively, so I can write a small review- as the current breed of reviews for this machine is pretty sad at Epinion.First of all, this machine is pretty old- technology ...
Great Multifunction for that Money by seidelhome ,Feb 03 '07
Pros: Love the Wireless printing.
Easy Set Up.
Price. Cons: Cannot print envelopes.
Had a MFC 210 before, and now I purchased this 665CW for the Wireless feature on it. It is awesome, that I can print from my laptop anywhere in the house and don't need to hook it up to the printer every time. Had some difficulties first connecting it to the wireless router, but the Brother Support Center website was very helpful.
This may not be a high quality printer, but neither is the price. Very satisfied with the handling and the quality too. The set-up was very easy and straight forward. Great looking machine, nice color LCD, includes fax, scanning AND you can directly download pictures from your various data cards, including XD, SD and USB. Absolutely awesome!! One thing that this and the 210 cannot do is print envelopes, or at least I haven't figured it out yet. Those jam fairly often.
Overall, great buy for that price! Highly recommend it for individuals or small businesses. Ink is very affordable as well.
Great print quality, but too bad every page jammed by southbayren ,Jan 21 '07
Pros: This printer has everything you might want in a printer. Cons: I just hope you are not planning on using it to print.
Although this printer has all the bells and whistles, all I cared about was the color print resolution. Took forever to install and set up and when I was done, it printed one black and white page and jammed on every other print job. Had to take it back and settle with a lower resolution printer. (My printer must also be a networkable printer)
Pros: looks good, works well, competitive price, easy cartridge loading, control panel has nice buttons Cons: Wi-Fi set up confusing, control panel buttons confusing relative to their stated function
just purchased, 11/06. difficulty setting up wireless portion, still not right. must call tech support. will f/up on this aspect of the machine when resolved. but the overall unit seems sound using the ethernet connection. pretty much does what expected, and within the specs supplied by the manufacturer. professional reviews for mags and the like say this printer lacks some clarity in the final outcome, i don't find that to be true but then their standards may be on a higher scale. the colors are not extremely vibrant so to use this as a quality type photo printer might be stretching it some. as an overall MFC with fax/printer etc., and considering the price compared to many others i researched, i'd say this is a good buy. this is the first non HP/Compaq/Toshiba i have ever owned so i am still skeptical about its mechanical longevity but thrilled about its use and appearance.
Pros: Cheap, small footprint, good paper handling, nice ink cartridges Cons: Doesn't scan, poor setup instructions, the worst customer service I have ever experienced
I asked around about the best brand of Multi-function printer/fax/scanner/copier to buy. Brother came in with good reviews.
I have an MFC 665CW. I am amazed at the awful software that Brother provided for running in the Mac environment. E.g. I have found spurious error messages that could not be cancelled; I had to restart. In my fairly expert opinion, Brother was and is not ready for the Mac market.
The setup is arcane. I gave up on 802.11g and just hooked the machine up with a USB cable. It prints OK. It faxes OK. It won't scan well -- certainly not with OS 10.4.9 as I write.
My attempts to use Brothers service line have been as ineffectual as they have been infuriating. I consider a 1.5 hour wait out of the realm of "good service". That was my first call. My second was only a 45 minute wait.
As things stand, I cannot use the 665CW for all of its functions. I don't know when I will.
I simply cannot figure out why anyone has negative things to say about this machine! I way overpaid for this unit (I bought it through my telephone company for 10 installments of $26.99), and I am still VERY happy with my purchase! I have not had one single problem with this unit. The adf has been used for at least 200 pages, and not one jam or misfeed! And for the photo quality critics, try using photo paper, you will be surprised! Dare I say that the quality is comparible with the photo lab. This machine has made a lasting impression on me for brother products (this being my first one). I absolutely recommend this to anyone who enjoys any projects from their pc like photo editing, card making, etc. I LOVE THIS PRINTER!!!!!
Pros: Price Cons: Phone/printer interface. Paper jams.
I bought this printer because of the features and the price. You can't leave the phone connected or the fax answers your calls whether you pick up or not. When someone is using the phone all the controls are unavailable until the line is free, you must either hang up or unplug the phone cord. That means no printing, no copying, nothing. I've had several paper jams that were never a problem with any other printer. I wouldn't buy another one at all.

Pros: Decent printing and speed
Multifunction Cons: Becomes in-operable after 2-weeks if you don't replace the ink even though it is good
This machine functions fine, however every few weeks it prompts you to change the ink in all of the 4 cartridges- VERY EXPENSIVE. I print in grayscale fast mode to save ink and keep from burning out the color. It does not matter for this machine as it will not let you print after so many pages go through the cycle wasting ink and YOUR MONEY. All the ink cartridges I have thrown out are more than half full! I get ten times the life out of a cannon cartridge for half the price. Again- this machine will not let you print unless you have a full cartridge!
