A Cut Above

by nagels nagels is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Home and Garden, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Sep 09 '08
Pros: Great performance. Designed in Baltimore Oriole colors
Cons: Work time limited by battery life.
Being cordless is not always a good thing, like if you're playing a musical instrument, singing in a choir, or jumping with a parachute. On the other hand, cordless can be wonderful if you're talking about a phone, game controller, keyboard and mouse, or ...

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, Which One to Buy. When

by badbonz0007 badbonz0007 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Home and Garden, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Aug 30 '08
Pros: Well-known brand name and excellent for small yards.
Cons: Batteries will definitely not last long, if you have a large yard.
My wife and I have owned several different types of lawn edgers and trimmers in our lifetime; these include the cordless and electric models from craftsman, Black & Decker, and the new one on the market the Worx GT. Our craftsman and Black & ...

Black and Decker Grasshog Rechargeable

by toiletoctopus Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 03 '08
Pros: Efficient, Easy to Use, Price, Doesn't use oil or gas
Cons:

Battery Charge

Although I look at lawn care, in similar light to a trip to the dentist, it is a necessity in Northern Virginia. While some communities have a laissez faire approach to grass regulations, the Fairfax Grass Police are always on patrol, and looking for ...

A good trimmer for a small yard.

by wilson0423 , Aug 22 '08
Pros: No messy gasoline or oil mixtures to deal with, automatic string feed, Environmentally friendly
Cons: Batteries do not hold a long charge. Not powerful enough for anything thicker than grass.
The Black and Decker Grasshog is a very good little grass trimmer. The battery packs make it more convenient and cleaner than a traditional two cycle engine trimmer, and much better than dealing the long cords of other electric trimmers. As a bonus ...

Good for getting multiple jobs done

by jspahn , Dec 17 '08
Pros: Great example of a cordless tool as it should be.
Cons: Line it a little light for some jobs.  Thick, woody weeds will defeat it.
Black & Decker Cordless Line Trimmer (NST2018).  My wife and I were in the market for some new lawn tools.  The corded line trimmer we had been using was nearing the end of its life so we decided to go out and get a new one.  I saw our ...

Perfect Edger for Our Small Yard

by Zifa , Feb 16 '09
Pros: Easy to use, versatile, cordless!
Cons: Batteries will run out quickly, charger issues
After two years of hand-me-down, picked up from the curb weed wackers that were nothing but trouble, I purchased the Black & Decker Grasshog for my husband as an anniversary gift. (Of course, I am the one who ends up using it!) Unlike our ...

Great Value And Convenience

by cavalier30_01 , Sep 22 '08
Pros: Well balanced, quiet, and unlimited range of use.
Cons: Once the battery starts losing it's charge, performance degrades significantly.
The last Black and Decker string trimmer that I owned was an electrical cord powered unit that lasted approximately 6 years. I had no desire to purchase a gas-powered unit because, A) they are noisy, B) those 4-cycle engines can be temperamental, C) ...

Works for me

by daisypanic , Jun 12 '09
Pros: Cordless
Came with 3 batteries
Trim yard on one charge
Easy to use
Cons: Auto line feed sometimes jams
I got this cordless trimmer at Sears for $99. There was a special offer from B&D for a free battery, so essentially this came with 3 batteries, 2 in the box and one in the mail.My main purpose was to encourage myself to trim the farthest ...

Affordable, Convenient, But Not For Tall People With Large Lawns

by dstiehr , Aug 17 '08
Pros: no gas to buy, no blades to maintain
Cons: may not be long enough for some people in terms of physical length and duration
I've been using this weed trimmer for a couple of months now and there's a lot to like. I've always used electric cord-based trimmers in the past. and connecting and untangling extension cords was a chore I was sick and tired of. I compared several ...

Do Not Buy thisTrimmer (B&D Ground Hog cordless NST2018)

by rbr1969 , Apr 18 '09
Pros: It's such a good idea, ie: cordless, lightweight, re-chargeable.
Cons: Low life batteries and non durable auto string advance.
I bought this trimmer because of Black & Decker's reputation and the attraction to a light weight, hassle free trimmer not tied to an electric cord. Boy was I disappointed! I live in a house with a city lot. I have a 100 foot frontage with a public ...

Last B & D Product For Me

by misterjim444 , Jun 13 '09
Pros: None
Cons: battery life is limited and you immediately have to buy more line BE Warned
I purchased the B & D 18 volt trimmer/edger yesterday from my local Lowes store. Without question this is one of the worst B & D products that I have ever purchased.  Battery life was about 15 minutes and when I inserted the second battery ...

Don't waste your money!
by naderator ,May 11 '09
Pros: It's cordless.
Can be used to prop something up or scare small rodents.
Cons: Poor performance inferior ni-cad batteries.
Far from "cutting edge technology", no pun intended.

JUNK

It came with 2 batteries that barely last 10 minutes each at full power. Having a second battery gets me half way around the pool and back yard. The life of these batteries is terrible. I charged both batteries overnight before using to insure a full charge as I do with all new batteries. As I sit here and type, I am running the battery out by taping the trigger in the on position so the next charge will be a full charge. Don't worry, it isn't dangerous, it barely trims the grass.
This thing will NOT edge your driveway or your sidewalk, it barely trims grass. Gave it a chance 5 different times.
Save yourself $50.00 by buying a Toro or Craftsman electric trimmer for $60.00. I wish I had. That cord you have to carry around will be a lot less frustrating than this piece of garbage.

Batteries for the B&D Grasshog Cordless
by pugdog808 ,May 02 '09
Pros: If it works and does what I expect then it is great.  Know tomorrow.
Cons: The non-interchageable 18V batteries.
I bought this one because it has an 18 V battery, and they looked just like the batteries I use on my other B&D tools.  It is not the same and they are not interchageable.  Don't know if it is any good, because I need to wait until tomorrow as it takes 9 hours to recharge these.  I expected a double feed like on my corded B&D Grasshog XP.  It is not a double.  Had to replace the XP because the drive shaft sheared off at the motor.  Should have read those reviews before buying it.  Read these and it sounds OK.  Will tell tomorrow, but I really can't tell why they can't make all their 18 V batteries interchageable.  Guess its for weight, but I don't mind if it would weigh a little more.

This tool works well....Batteries don't last
by faithful2 ,Jul 12 '08
Pros: The Grasshog is designed for light tasks and works is a pleasure to operate.
Cons: Both battery packs #244760 are losing their ability to hold a charge.
I purchased the Grasshog 8 months ago and used it on 7 occasions. For the first few occasions the tool worked as expected and the auto line feed was a welcome sight. However, both Battery Packs #2440760 that were provided are beginning to fail. This tool works well only when fully charged. At present, neither pack will accept a full charge. One pack is down to a single LED on the charger. The other is also showing signs of failure. The cost of replacement batteries virtually exceeds the cost of the tool. Since I have lost faith in Black and Decker's ability to provide a decent battery, I am forced to rely on an OEM (other equipment manufacturer) provider for battery replacements. This need for substitute batteries has raised the overall cost of the Grasshog significantly.
