My Bunn experience!!!
by nananurse ,Jul 09 '07
Pros: Makes good tasting coffee fast.
Cons: All the carafe replacements have leaked also.
I purchased a Bunn BT10 last year (2005) and have been through 2 coffeemakers and 6 carafes. Every thermal carafe I received would start leaking after about 1 week. I kept them clean and made at least 2 pots of coffee a day. I would call Bunn's 800#, tell them what was going on and they would say "The company is trying to redo the pot to keep it from leaking, We will send you another one as soon as it comes from marketing." Honestly, I went through five carafes that they sent to me for replacements and 2 full coffeemakers and an now on my third full coffeemaker. For the $150.00 that I paid, I have not gotten my moneys worth. It has been a pain! It is very embarrassing to have company and your fancy little $150.00 coffee carafe leaks when you pour coffee. Not a good image!!!

I Had High Hopes
by gjjim ,Feb 06 '06
Pros: Relatively fast brew time; Nice thermal stainless-steel carafe
Cons: Uses 2X as much coffee for a normal strength brew
We bought a BT10 to replace an aging Mr. Coffee, and I admit I was swayed enough by the glowing reviews of the Bunn to pay $120. After using it for two months, I've concluded it wasn't money well spent. The machine makes coffee quickly, but because the water passes through the grounds so fast, it fails to extract enough flavor, and the coffee is weak. I called Bunn after the first week and they sent me a low-flow nozzle which supposedly slows down the flow rate into the basket. Even with the reduced flow, the coffee was still too weak. We use whole beans and a burr grinder and to get a decent cup, I had to set the grinder to fine and use about twice as much coffee as before! With the increased price of coffee, this machine is no bargain at all.

Too many problems to recommend
by friedduck ,Dec 03 '05
Pros: Fast, hot coffee. Keeps it warm longer than most thermal carafes that I've used.
Cons: Carafe dribbles. Coffee sometimes weak (see review body.)
After roughly a year of ownership the short review of this maker is that it's too difficult to get good coffee out of it. It passes coffee through the grounds too quickly and you have to compensate by adding more coffee or grinding it finer.

Adding more coffee only works to a point (unless you find and buy Bunn filters, which are larger.)

Additionally the carafe has taken to dribbling when pouring the first couple of cups - cleaning it helps (coffee gathering in the seam between lid and carafe?) but the problem soon returns.

With those problems out of the way, it makes coffee FAST by pre-heating the water and keeping it in the reservoir ready to go. Not the most energy-efficient solution but that's the price. If you need to make a second pot (say, decaf when hosting a party) you have to wait for it to recover.

It's the Best
by rschrod ,Oct 13 '05
Pros: Fast brewing
Cons: Expensive, sometimes overflows filter, RECALLED
I've had the BT10 for about 10 months now to replace a Mr. Coffee that lasted about a month. This is the fasted brewing pot I've ever seen. It doesn't have any frills like timers, but with the speed it has, who needs them. It also works on a gravity feed so there is no internal pump that will wear out. Only an internal heater and a switch, so I expect this will last a long time. Occasionally, it will overflow out the top of the funnel if the coffee is ground too fine and if you don't use genuine Bunn filters. I had to start making a coarser grind than I used to but it didn't affect the flavor at all, in fact, it is richer that my previous makers that used a finer grind of bean. The carafe keeps the coffee warm for about 2 hours.

2 weeks later.... I just got my recall letter from Bunn. They are offering to ship & repair the unit for free (I'll be lacking a coffee maker for a couple of weeks) or I can accept a 50% discount on a new unit. I'm going for the repair route.

Bunn Thermal Coffee Maker
by imwman ,Feb 26 '05
Pros: Nice carafe.
Cons: Grounds overflow and coffee does not stay hot.
I am very disappointed in this product. The coffee does not stay hot in the pot since there is no burner. Even if using the Bunn filter, the coffee grounds float out of the filter and into the coffee pot, sometimes overflowing out of the filter and all over the countertop if making a full pot. For $100, I expected better.

Constant and annoying leaks
by hatedrips ,May 16 '08
Pros: Plan to wipe up the counter every pour, or pour over the sink.
Cons: drip, drip, drip...
I love my coffeemaker with one exception--it leaks nearly constantly when pouring. I've tried everything--pouring fast, pouring slow. Washing in the dishwasher, scrubbing the lip with a brush and hot soapy water, soaking the entire pot in a bucket of hot soapy water, spraying the lip with cleaners. Nothing works. I can't tell you how annoying this is.

The most expensive & worst coffee maker I have ever owned
by iamteri29 ,Aug 24 '05
Pros: Quick coffee - but that's about it!
Cons: You have to use extra coffee grounds to make a standard cup.
The "Thermal" Carafe is not a thermal carafe - it is metal & does not keep the coffe warm. Because the coffee is made quickly, the grounds flow over in the basket and makes a very weak cup of coffee.

Have always owned a Krups before this & if I hadn't spent so much on this, would just throw it away & buy another Krups.

Boo for Bunn
by babelfish42 ,May 03 '06
Pros: fast
Cons: grinds in coffee, overflows the filter, no shutoff, mediocre taste.
I'm amazed at how bad this unit is after reading other reivews that raved about it. For one thing, how hard is it to make a machine that doesn't turn itself off after an hour so the coffee left in the pot doesn't burn to a crisp?

Secondly, it has a habit of overflowing with the grounds winding up in the pot. The only solution is to make less than a full pot.

I will give it points on speed as the brewing water is always hot and ready to go, and that's all I can say for it. The coffee isn't especially better tasting than other good machines.

In short, I expect much better from Bunn.

Coffee Disaster!
by adrizhal ,Nov 09 '05
Pros: Makes coffee quickly. Flavor is good.
Cons: Coffee overflows from filter or spews out 5 out of 7 times.
We loved this machine at first. It makes great coffee in no time. But then it started spewing coffee and coffee grounds out of the filter holder. We're not sure why. We've tried grinding the beans fine, course, etc., and have reduced the amount of water we pour in. It doesn't seem to matter. We have a coffee disaster almost every day. The manual also claimed that the coffee stays hot for hours in the pot, but it doesn't. After about two hours, I have to heat my coffee in the microwave. But that's minor compared to coffee grounds all over the kitchen counter and floor.

Bunn thermal - not so thermal
by labikina ,Jul 09 '08
Pros: brews tasty coffee
Cons: coffee does not stay hot for very long in thermal pot
I love Bunn coffee pots - have used them for serveral years. The pot brews excellent coffee which is a pro. The con is that the coffee does not stay hot for very long. After an hour, the temperature is already significantly cooler. If you will drink the coffe within an hour, it's a great pot. If not, you may want to think about another style.

Weak Coffee
by ralawrence ,Feb 15 '07
Pros: all the stuff features others have mentioned
Cons: Can't seem to make anything but WEAK coffee regardless of what we try.
20+ years using a regular Bunn (hot plate) before if finally gave up. The Thermal carafe looked to be great. It did all that the other reviewer claim EXCEPT make a good cup of coffee. It seems no matter what grounds we use, how we grind it, how much we put into the hopper or how much (or little) water we use, the coffee isn't a whole lot better than strong tea. We try the same coffee/grind/etc in other coffee makers (including the old style Bunn) and it is great. How do we make a good cuppa???

Sorry we bought it
by emende1 ,Apr 30 '06
Pros: Makes coffee fast.
Cons: Carafe leaks and does not stay hot for long.
We loved our old BUNN coffee maker but wanted the carafe as we always pored our coffee into one before to avoid scorching the coffee. It makes coffee fast and it's good, but the carafe is the worst ever. It dripped and leaked from the first pot and only got worse. Wrote to the BUNN company with absolutely no response. I am currently shopping for a replacement- and a new brand. I believe in customer service and BUNN obviously does not.

Best Coffee Maker by far!
by madisongulf ,Dec 25 '06
Pros: Super Fast, simple, hot coffee in less time than it takes to prepare the beans.
Cons: Style, need to use more coffee than other makers.
Faster than you can prepare the grounds this maker will have a full pot of HOT coffee ready. It requires more coffee grounds than a typical maker to achieve the same strength (probably since the brewing time is so fast and grounds don't stay steeped in the water for long) but it makes a good cup a Joe. Tips: Don't think of using standard-sized filters. Get the larger commercial sizes to avoid grounds or dribbled water on your counter. Also, I discovered through trial and error (unscientific as it may be) that if you pour the water in the maker only immediately before you are ready to brew reduces spillage. I suspect that pressure builds up in the maker with the newly added water and the maker forces it out faster if you wait to begin brewing. Regardless, this is the best coffee maker we've ever had -- simple, and good coffee. Warranty info: Our unit stopped working 3 weeks after we purchased and Bunn had a new one back to us in 7-8 days from the day we sent it out.
