Pros: fantastic French cuisine; excellent presentation; interesting wall murals; fawning wait staff Cons: A/C is at best iffy
In what will certainly continue as tradition, we make an annual pilgrimage to Café des Artistes, a romantic French bistro just off Central Park West on Manhattan's West Side. Nestled into a Parisian-style residence, the Hotel des Artistes, the ...
Pros: Fine food, good service, great decor, convenient to Lincoln Center Cons: pricey menu, a little expensive to park in the garages-but less than mid-town
One weekday in early December, 2000, my husband & I needed to find a restaurant near Lincoln Center. We decided to try Café des Artistes. We found VERY mixed reviews on e-pinions. We decided to try it for ourselves.
Pros: Historic location convenient to theaters. Romantic ambiance. Cons: Ordinary, unimaginative food in small portions. Cramped seating. Not worth the price.
I and a date arrived at 5 pm on a Saturday night. We had pate and salad as appetizers, sea bass as entrees, apple strudel and chocolate mousse for dessert (from the pre-theater menu prix-fixe). I had seen the restaurant's impressive website, and ...
Pros: a cosy, romantic cafe, stunning murals Cons: difficulty in getting reservations, somewhat pricey
The Cafe des Artistes is virtual perfection. It boasts a winning combination of incredibly beautiful murals, quick and attentive service, and mouth-watering cuisine. The dark wood, subtle candlelight, and frolicking nymphs create the ultimate romantic...
This wonderful restaurant/institution is a great joy to visit. With its
romantic background of artists donating works to pay for their lunch/dinner hanging on the walls this is a stable treasure that doesn't
get a lot of media attention....
Pros: Excellent service, and at least you can say you went there. Cons: Ordinary food, poor lighting, hospital cafeteria crowd
Big disclaimer. I was there once -- about 4 years ago. However, 2 years ago, when I tried my hardest to convince my good friend not to go there on her birthday, she wouldn't listen and went. The next day, she told me I was right, and she was sorry she...
Pros: Gorgeous atmosphere, consistently good service Cons: Expensive, sometimes fully booked
Cafe des Artistes, 1 West 67th Street, Manhattan, just off Central Park West, is where you go with people who are dear to you. Whether it is your best friend(s), your favorite niece, or your special partner, this is the place for you. Some restaurants...

Pros: Elegant settings, great food, convenient to Lincoln Center Cons: Pricey.
They describe this place as the English Ordinary which compares to the French Bistro but it sure seemed French to me.
The food was elaborate and pricey but worth it.
The restaurant is dark wood walls, elegant murals and quiet. I really felt I was someplace special when I took my wife here after a show at Lincoln Center. The decor and the murals made me feel like we were in some early 20th century time frame.
The service was excellent. Everyone from the coat check girl to the bus boys were polite and helpful.
It's a short walk from Lincoln center but nestled on a side street around the corner from Central Park. Close to the action but a world away inside.

Pros: The Atmosphere and Service and Food! Cons: None!
Everything one would expect from timeless elegance to superior food, service and atmosphere. This is the perfect place to celebrate any occasion or have the perfect romantic evening. There isn't a single flaw. This is NYC at it's absolute best!
The food is plain boring and service was disappointing. by dlai70 ,Sep 10 '06
Pros: Romantic
Appetizers good
Desert good
Cons: Service is poor
Too dark
Expensive for ordinary food
I went there with my family looking for excellent French cuisine. I had the hen with caramaized onions, it was ok but not impressive. My wife had red snapper. The snapper was ordinary and there was no presentation. It was like they put the snapper with clams and pasta in a bowl. It reminded her of Italian dish. My neice had the steak with fries. Again it was so so. My sister-in-law had the pot au something. It was like a duck leg stew. It reminded her of a Chinese dish similiar to bee stew with noodles, nothing that stood out. The beef tartare and the salmon 4 way appetizer and the chocalate mousse was good but not great. Service was almost non-existant when we arrive there. Had to get the waiter to place our order. The room near the bar is dark for my taste. Its good if you are a celebrity and don't want to get noticed. Overall food was very expensive and left you unsatisfied. If you like old world charm then this place is for you. As for us we will never go back. I can get better food for a fraction of the price.
