Pros: Portability & size, high quality output, excellent software, value Cons: Somewhat slow, optional Velcro is a pain
I recently sought a scanner to use with my laptop for general-purpose scanning (pictures, important documents, copying, etc.) After some reasonably extensive searching, I decided on the Canon CanoScan N1240U.
Pros: Excellent colour reproduction, thin design, easy setup Cons: Average speed, sometimes noisy
For anyone looking to buy a scanner for the first time, you can't go wrong with the CanoScan N1240U. After extensive research of several scanners that were a step up from the "bottom-of-the-barrel" scanners, I decided on the Canon unit and I have yet to...
It was time to go out and break down and find a scanner for my new computer. The thing that I was most afraid of was would it work with Microsoft XP. I had heard stories that even though the packages reads it will work with XP, you can...
Pros: Cool looks, nice software. Cons: Nobody could get this thing work with my Windows ME. Expensive.
I fell for this scanner for it's very kool looks and color that matches with my Sony Vaio PC. The whole setup was plug and play and went very well. The software that came with it is excellent(Photoshop Elements). But, me or any Canon Tech support people...
Pros: ease of software installation and use, one-touch buttons, great quality scans Cons: none bad enough to be called "cons"
My mother bought this scanner to go, originally, with her indigo iMac, and later it moved on to her new pc system. I've been nothing but pleased with this scanner. The installation of the software may seem a bit slow, but once you see the list of ...
Pros: Small profile, USB interface, energy saving, and updated drivers Cons: CIS scanning element, limit of 8.5" x 11" in scanning size
Size isn't everything and this is especially true with Canon's CanoScan N1240U Flatbed Scanner. Cannon has always been well known for their compact design of their product. It shows with this scanner as it only has a 10.1" x 15.1" x 1.3" (W x L x H)...

I purchased this scanner from Costco based on its features, price and OCR software.
The scanner lQQks good. However, I had many problems after installing the scanner software. My computer would lockup and only by disconnecting the USB from the...
Pros: Tiny, with Unbelievable Quality! So easy to use, it's AMAZING! USB Powered! Cons: Requires good power supply, if that's a con!
This scanner is unbelievable. It's EXTREMELY small, about an inch thick, 14 inches long and 10 inches wide. It's completely USB powered, eliminating the need for a Separate power cord, which makes it VERY portable and EXTREMELY convenient. It...
Pros: USB, small, affordable, good quality Cons: speed could be better on higher resolution scans
I am very happy with this model of scanner. I paid about $75 for mine. My only complaint is the scan speed is somewhat slow on the higher resolution scans. The quality is excellent, the software is solid, and it is very easy to use. I also like the...
Pros: great quality, easy to use, slim compact design, processes fast Cons: hard to install on windows xp,awkward tooldbox functions(prog that came w/ it)
I recieved my scanner as a free gift from Dell Computers. I talked them in to giving me one of the best scanners they had FOR FREE. I scan pictures, documents, books, and everything comes out great.
Pros: Powered directly from USB port, stores easily on a bookshelf, great image quality Cons: No direct open source drivers, discontinued (but well supported) model
I only use a scanner occasionally, but when I do I care about the quality. The CanoScan N1240U sits ...
Pros: Super slim design, Excellent scan quality, Nice and useful software Cons: Place doc 2mm from edge to get full platen scan
I was pleasantly surprised with this piece of hardware. A super slim and eye-pleasing design, great software, excellent scan quality - and equally important: very easy to use.
Snapped the USB cable into my Mac Mini, installed the software and clicked Photoshop and chose Scan. That's it.
Very good scanning quality, and the intuitive bundled software has a few nifty helpers (anti moirée, unsharp masking, dust/scratch removal etc.), for those that don't have the full version of Photoshop.
Only an idiot couldn't make this thing work in a few seconds, and the front panel buttons are helpful for those who want to automatically scan and attach a doc to an email just using a simple button press.
I think this is the best middle range scanner available, and one that works flawlessly on Mac OS X.
This scanner is the only one in it's price range, designed for buisness. No cutesy animations and flashy colors. very much, straight forward look , slimline (1.3"high)appearance. USB combined with AC power in one cable. The interface is easy to understand and use. capable of great hi res scans. Bottom line, I am completely satisfied with the performance of this scanner, and I just love the very proffesional way it looks.
