NO NO BEWARE
by muncy_bunch ,Jun 04 '08
Pros: NONE Cons: Everything
Easy to get loan approval. Raise interest rate. Customer service horrible. Customer service can't even tell you anything more then 3 months back. Keep getting default letters when all that should be due is a payment for this month and one late fee for 1-day late. I am very thankful that I didn't choose to do auto draft because of the fact of what I am hearing. Waiting! to hear back we will see. Would not recommend to anyone! I think I found mistake from back on July 30, 2007, of course customer service doesn't compute back that far couldn't tell me anything. So I have been sending in more then payment every month to get paid down and off quicker. I guess maybe that is the problem lack of what to do with extra money???? Worthless company to deal with.

The Worst Ever
by danichap ,Sep 04 '09
Pros: Average loan rate Cons: Inconsistent info from customer service, which appears to all be outsourced to other countries
I would NEVER use Capital One Auto Finance again and encourage others not to. I have been trying to sell a financed used car and they have made it almost impossible to do so. Each person I talk to there answers my questions differently.
Basically, to release your title you must pay off your loan. If you do this in any way other than a certified check, it will take them up THIRTY DAYS to process the payment before they contact your DMV to release your title (and then the DMV will take it's time to mail it to you).
Unfortunately, I was told differently by a customer service agent and so I paid my loan off with an online payment. As a result, I have to wait about 6 weeks before the new owner can have a signed title in hand (and I will be leaving the country, so now I have to give someone power of attorney in order to sign the title). Capital One's process has created an awful mess for me. I have never had such programs selling a car before.

Capital One/Ascension Capital Group - Horrible Service
by tak7591 ,Nov 20 '07
Pros: None that I can think of Cons: Poor customer service, almost impossible to speak to a person
Admittedly my credit was going down hill and I was getting ready to file bankruptcy. I bought a car and it was financed at a very high rate through Capital One (at the time I didn't feel I had many options). I filed Chapter 13 and will be done in 4 months. My car loan was never assigned to the bankruptcy it was kept out and I have always made my payments, although at times it has been a struggle, this is one of those times. My account now shows 4 months behind. Thinking this would be a good time to call and see if they could work with me. What a total waste of time and energy on my part, dealing with both those groups. Even trying to get to talk to a real person was a major nightmare. They informed me that I was a bankruptcy case and that they will do nothing for these accounts, not even when the bankruptcy is ended. As soon as my bankruptcy is over I will be trying to find a way away from Capital One.

What more do they want?
by isoundoff ,May 31 '09
Pros: Convenience of Internet application. Cons: The company's failure to recognize good from bad borrowers.
Despite my excellent credit score, long credit history, and minimal credit card balance, I was declined without proper explanation. This was not just outrageous, but an absolute waste of my time.

Infuriated!
by rinarotq ,Feb 06 '08
Pros: None Cons: Misleading Customer 'Support'
Dealing with Capitalone Auto Finance has been one of the most horrible experiences of my life. We got approved for up to $18,000 and sent in all of our require paper work. Under dealership responsibilities, they are require to call Capitalone to check that we have met all the requirements which I assume they did. Anyways...we go our brand shiny, new car no problem, yesterday night. Capitalone called us this morning to say that what we sent isn't enough, that they need more. Their argument is completely ridiculous, we had everything required. We have been fighting with them for over two hours, being promised that they will send through the loan anyways by two different people, to being told there is nothing they can do and won't approve the loan. Today we get to take back are car. We have credit cards with them, we plan on paying them off with the money we are "saving" by no car payment, and canceling them. I'm fed up, we will never do business with them again. BEWARE.

Bad service, RUDE people
by ski2fast ,Feb 07 '06
Pros: It was cheaper than my original loan rate. Cons: THEY HAVE REALLY BAD SERVICE!!!!!
Refinanced my car last summer with Capital One Auto. Car was totaled last month due to no fault of my own. Insurance paid what they were going to pay which left a balance of $1,400. Capital One COLLECTIONS called the next day to demand payment in full in less than four weeks or they would mark my car as repossed on my credit profile. One of the RUDEST people I have ever had to deal with. I wasnt even trying to spread out the payment, I said I was going to pay by the 28th(D-DAY) but he said I need to make arrangements to pay it NOW and he just kept saying that and wouldnt even listen to me....I called back to complain about his treatment of me but was directed straight back to him "Charles". "Charles" said I could not complain to anyone about him. He said he had no boss and I had to deal with him no matter what. Then he "disconnected" on me. What a JERK....No more Capital One ANYTHING for me EVER AGAIN!!!

Hard to use, support is from India, and it stinks
by rrasmussenjr ,Nov 17 '09
Pros: Sorta convenient for the seller. Cons: When you get someone from India who is clueless, the frustration really mounts.
After working the automated phone system that is only good at directing customers to their website, I finally got a human from somewhere near Mumbai. He was great with a script, but he had no clue how to help and transferred me to an native English speaker. (somewhere in North America I'm presuming from the accent) If you want to support the export of jobs through your own frustrating experience then hook up with capital one.

The WORST experience ever.
by it_group ,Aug 01 '07
Pros: I honestly can not think of a single one. Cons: Horrible service. Bait & Switch. Delays. These guys should be investigated and shut down.
They sucker you in by "approving" you instantly and appearing very efficient. The "approval" is not real - they can (ad dis with me three times) do a "real" approvals, confirmations, change rates, and other games after the fact. Then there is the absolute lack of customer service and inability to talk to anyone human, ever. And if you do get a human, they can do nothing more for you than the computer. You might as well be talking to a rock.
Oh, and did I mention that they don't always honor the blank check? It is NOT as good as cash. I had to wait almost three weeks for my car to be released to me because the dealer claims that Capital One checks are about as good as any old personal check. At the time I thought they were playing games, but now I know better.
I honestly wish I could rate this even lower. If you have ANY other option, do not use Capital One! You have been warned!

There loans should be criminal activity
by bgibeau ,Mar 12 '09
Pros: None what so ever Cons: They are crooks
Having not very good credit I was able to get a loan on a 2004 Jeep Liberty with 27K miles on it for about 18K... I'm about 1/2 way paid off and the balance is still over 12K and blue book is 7K now. This is a hole that will never end. There must be guys smoking Cuban cigars on the beach from this kind of activity. I'm going to make it but in retrospect.... This is the reason the poor stay poor. If REAL interest rates are not available we shouldn't be allowed to get stuff. These guys are legalized gangsters, they need to go away!!

Think Twice...
by gwuengr2 ,Mar 17 '06
Pros: You can apply on the web Cons: Capital One, for the average customer, is an impenetrable bureaucracy.
My original car loan was with PeopleFirst, who were great to deal with, and then Capital One bought out PeopleFirst.
I will never take a loan out (of any type) with Capital One, they are a huge corporate conglomerate and your loan will carry all of the baggage that comes along with most corporate conglomerate's.
Yes, their customer service stinks, that's because they don't care about any one customer.

Fine by me
by anony221265 ,Mar 25 '08
Pros: Quick. Website great way to monitor loan and payments, and very easy to pay online. Cons: none
I paid off my 3 year capital one auto loan in 7 months and after reading some of these reviews expected to wait a long time before getting any lien documentation. I was pleasantly surprise, however, when the documentation came two weeks after I paid off the loan. The only negative I saw was that you had to mail a check to pay off the loan and couldn't pay directly with a bank transfer like all the other payments, and really that's only a minor inconvenience. Getting the loan was a breeze, and it was great to go into the car dealer with a loan offer with 2% lower interest than they were willing to give me. I've had a great experience with capital one and would absolutely recommend them.

Capitol One is bad bad bad!!!!
by els8803 ,Mar 14 '07
Pros: NONE Cons: EVERYTHING IS BAD ABOUT THEM THEY WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE
I too am a victim of capitol one they have taken my credit hostage. I received a payoff letter from them last year. I paid what they told me to. and then 2 weeks later they send me a letter saying i still owe approx $600.00 and then another letter saying i owe approx $800.00 but in the mean time they send me my title. and then then phone calls started they would call every hour on the hour and i would be on the phone and call waiting would ring in and it would be another customer service rep threatning me telling me another amt i would have to pay. I have filed several complaints with the FTC and I pray that justice will be served and we could be involved in the class action law suit against this horrible company!!!!!!

Worst rate for an auto refinancing
by ronald_dato ,Mar 30 '07
Pros: none Cons: Very opportunistic on refinance, only intent is much profit from your wallet.
The rate given to me is ridiculous from 15% to 13.75% that is with a very good credit record and credit score. This is one of the opportunistic Banks like the car dealers who just want to take advantage of people trying to get out from debt. Don't even waste your time applying for a refinance. Their customer services are the worst dumb people Ive ever have to talk with. They don't know anything about the service they are providing.

Terrible when you have an issue
by joepistritto ,Jan 05 '06
Pros: None Cons: You have to do all the legwork to resolve an issue.
I cancelled the extended warranty and the refund should have been credited to my loan balance. However, CapitalOne says they've never received it. Furthermore, their customer service reps aren't willing to go any further to help than to just look whether they cashed a check for the refund amount. They won't even call the automotive company's finance arm.
Basically, over the last 4 days I've called both about 20 times and neither have been very helpful.
Before this experience I would have recommended them to a friend. However, after this I will never use them again.

overnight delivery invoice
by spammyemail ,Jul 28 '08
Pros: online Cons: bad customer service
I ordered the Blank Check on May 25th with the overnight delivery. On June 4th, it was still not here, so I called. It turned out that Capital One had never sent it! I get a check sent to me...but I didn't end up using it. I still received a $15 fee for the overnight delivery. I called and told them the situation. They said that they sent me an email telling me to call them before they would send it out, so I still owe the money. This is not true, as the email says to log into my account OR call. I logged into my account immediately. I really hate when phone reps do not know what the website/bulk mail/email says.
