Terrible brewing process
by mattw30030 ,Apr 11 '07
Pros: useful features Cons: brewing process
I saw a ton of positive reviews for this coffee maker, so I decided this was the one to buy. After making a few batches of coffee, however, I've come to the conclusion this coffee maker makes a terrible cup of coffee. The water spout has one large hole with several smaller holes around it. Well, all the water comes out of the larger center hole leaving the coffee grounds to sides of the filter basket untouched and dry. This is where some of the comments about weak coffee come from. Also, the water comes out at 170-175 degrees. Coffee should be brewed at 190-200 degrees.
If your a discerning coffee drinker, don't buy this design flawed coffee maker.

What a difference a year makes!!
by a55551234 ,May 21 '07
Pros: Coffee is pretty good once I blew it out Cons: SLOW, leaks, steam on my cabinets, POOR customer service
Fifty eight minutes to brew a cup of coffee!!I bought this DCC-1200 a year ago. Unfortunately it didn't work. I called support and was told to send $10 and the maker to them and they will replace. The water that made it to the pot was very minimal and weak. Steam rolled up my Oak cabinets and dripped on the counter. I decided to cut my losses and took the bottom off voiding my warranty. The hose was full of coffee grounds. Blew it out and it worked fine. You must open the lid all the way to prevent water from dripping on the counter and the cleaning/decalcificating doesn't help. Haven't worked up enough nerve to try CRL. Wouldn't buy again!

Enjoying the Flavor
by kellypat ,Oct 10 '05
Pros: The coffee tastes great every time. The quality workmanship. The retro-professional look. Charcoal filters. Cons: Small water reservoir difficult to fill. Water level hard to see because it's dark.
I have also gone through a few cheap coffee makers recently and been disappointed. This coffee maker makes great coffee, as well as looking good and feeling well-built. I have had it 2 months and haven't changed the charcoal filter yet. I have one more filter, so I know I will change it at least once. I use the paper filters because I bought the unit refurbished for $54, and it did not come with a gold one. I have never been satisfied with them anyway. I would recommend this retro unit to anyone as long as they have excellent lighting in the kitchen to see the water level. I suppose I could just fill up the coffee pot, but I have a sprayer on my sink-its easier to fill that way. The only thing I would change if I were to buy another would be to get it in white.

LOVE IT-Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Coffee Maker.
by colesc43 ,Jan 18 '07
Pros: easy cleaning, makes great coffee, Sturdy, carafe made of thick glass, easy to use Cons: none
Our son bought this coffee maker for us awhile back. He did the research and since we drink alot of coffee decided to purchase it for us. GREAT decision. This coffee maker beats all of them. Easy cleaning, makes great coffee, Sturdy, easy to use, Carafe is made of a thick glass-, all the others we have had were thin glass and we would barely tap them against something and they would crack.
EXcellent coffee maker. Have had this coffee maker for approx. 6 years. Would buy the same one again--If we had to.

Absolutely the best
by retriever6 ,Jan 22 '08
Pros: Carafe temperature can be set. Top of carafe protected from easy breakage by plastic rim. Cons: Difficult to remove filter basket for cleaning by pulling up on flimsy thin plastic hook.
It is the best of all the coffeemakers we have used. Coffee is both hot and delicious. Allows adjustments that others do not have

Poor Customer Service
by ghekommm ,Sep 17 '08
Pros: worked great for just 4 months Cons: poor workmanship, poor customer service in resolving issues
The coffee maker worked great for the first four months, and then, I woke-up one morning after programming it to make coffee at the wee hours of the morning, only to find coffee all over my kitchen. The mechanism to hold the filter basket had either melted or snapped. I returned the coffee maker to Delonghi only to hear the song and dance, we can't help you without the receipt. The customer service from there on out only declined. I would not ever buy a Delonghi product again just based on their "lack" of customer service.

Opinions are........
by heresmine ,Dec 11 '03
Pros: Good-looking Cons: Pricey....and didn't give that 'like-coffee-smells-taste'
In reading Mind-Full's review of this coffeemaker, I'm reminded 'beauty's in the eye of the beholder'...or in this case 'good coffee....etc.'
This Cuisinart (altho' I can't say for sure it was the same model) is one I bought and returned. 'Nothing WRONG with it. It just didn't give that coffee flavor we were looking for...for 1. And 2, it cost too much to be not exactly what I was looking for.
It IS a handsome devil, tho'.

The best looking coffee maker on the market
by bettyray ,Dec 28 '04
Pros: Perfect cup of Coffee kept hot with a controllable warming plate Cons: Condensation and LCD clock
I bought this coffee maker because of its design and because I wanted a quality product. It produces a perfect cup of coffee and keeps it as hot as you want it with the warming plate control ( no more luke-warm coffee ). The only criticisms I have are when you lift the lid to fill it condensation water runs down the back of the unit and has to be mopped up, also the clock should be an LED not an LCD as it is difficult to see.

Best Coffee Maker Ever!!
by cmadlom ,Dec 27 '05
Pros: Quiet operation, never bitter, temp just right!!
Cons: none
We have owned this coffee pot for 2 years. We are heavy coffee drinkers (two to four pots daily). The coffee is brewed without a lot of noise, a faint alarm sounds when the brew process is over, but not too loud to wake anyone. The coffee is always the right temperature, and is never bitter. We have had numerous coffee pots over the years this is by far the best!!

After 3 years
by fsabbagh ,Jul 22 '06
Pros: Great coffee Cons: Low quality (see above)
I have to admit, I loved this Cuisinart UNTIL it broke down 2 months after the 3 year warranty expired. Wow! My old coffee maker prior to the Cuisinart was still working when I threw it out. For the price I paid, I expected it to last longer.

It died on me... just after the one year warranty...
by jenniferjen ,May 27 '08
Pros: Brews a decent cup of coffee. Cons: Pump died after a year and the glass cracked - but I've never dropped it.
I raved about it to all my friends, It did brew a great cup of coffee. Then just after the one year warranty was up, I notices a crack in the glass carafe, stemming from the silver band in the middle. Somehow it seemed to not spread and by the next month the cleaning light went on, and the pump kept sucking what sounded like a lot of air and some water. It now takes about an hour to brew a pot, and I have tried everything to clean it. Nothing seems to work.
Alas... I am moving on, the romance is over.

Waste of money
by happyrob ,Feb 02 '08
Pros: Looks nice. Looks even nicer in the garbage can. Cons: Carafe is crap. Dribbles and breaks very easily. Chucked the machine when 2nd carafe broke.
This machine worked pretty well and does look nice but the carafes must be made out of light bulb glass. Replaced once and then gave up when the 2nd broke. Both times they broke while washing despite being gentle while doing so. Carafe dribbled also while pouring. Buy something else.

The worst of the drips
by snicky ,Dec 07 '05
Pros: Um, it looks really nice on my counter. Cons: See review, no room here!
Well, what can I say? Weak coffee, drips condensation on the cord (can we say unsafe?!), single hole floods brew basket causing overflows if you use more than 5 scoops of coffee, small res. opening and no way of reading fill lines if you aren't using a flashlight, auto brew sometimes fails to come on, takes forever to brew 8 cups, etc... I cannot disagree with any poor review I have read. I know lots of people like this machine (my in-laws love theirs) but I just cannot believe that this is the best on the market right now. Usually, Cuisinart products are tops but I truly wish Kitchen Aid would just fix the problems with their old design and start making them again.

Cuisinart Brew Central
by leonidcat ,Dec 31 '07
Pros: Easy to set up, use and clean. Great look and no paper filters. Cons: None that I can think of.
I originally purchased this item from Overstock because we just remodeled our kitchen and I needed something stainless that matched the other appliances. I didn't know if I would like it or not, but it had a great look. When I received it I thought it was wonderful. I have used this product for approximately 5 years and love it still. We recently purchased a motorhome and I immediately bought one for it. If my original every quits, I will certainly buy another.

quality is suspect
by anticonsumer ,Jan 16 '07
Pros: Like our stove from Fridgidaire, it has "The look of better performance". Cons: Awkward to fill with water, very slow and questionable quality.
We purchased this coffee maker in mid-December after our old carafe broke and couldn't be replaced. We read all the reviews, many of which seemed to make this unit sound miraculous and then found that it appeared that the market was saturated with this coffee maker since there were far fewer other options available.
We bought the Cuisinart and found the product made adequate coffee but thought it slow and somewhat awkward to use. While most reviewers raved about the product some had horror stories to tell of outright failure leading to several replacements. Well, we are now in that category as we came down to make coffee and found the unit dead. This 32 days after purchase. Having been suspicious of so many rave reviews, we wondered if they might have been planted and considered purchasing a different model as a replacement but as I said, the market seems to have few other choices. We brought home a new Cuisinart and cross our fingers every time we use it. I look forward to its demise so we can replace it with a brand that I trust.
