Alright. So.. I was skeptical. A friend tells me all about it. I'm like.. Blood? What? Matriarchal system? I'll admit it. This book is a little tough to grasp on the technical side at first.

It opens up an entire world and system of magic never quite used before. It takes you a while to learn the terms and rules, but after you figure it out, it's quite fascinating! A great thing about this book, I feel, is that it opens up an entire universe that is so unique and fun. It makes you wish you were a part of it!
This book gives you a run for your attention span with the magic system, but it leaves quite fulfilled with dark characters and tales of torture, equally measured with a lovely alternative love story.
It's very hard to come across a nice dark fantasy novel. Anne Bishop is at her best with this one.

The book starts off hard to follow, there are a great deal of characters that can make the book hard to follow, but its wonderfully twisted in the way that all the characters come together.

The little girl in the book captures your heart with her innocence of her situation. The dark lord Sataen really makes you feel for him and his devotion and love for the young girl.
