Pros: Outstanding beaches, atmosphere, relaxation value, seafood, water fun, and the people! Cons: Crowds during high season (when school's out and spring break),the random influx of seaweed.
This is the part of Florida that no one knows about...the panhandle, with sugary white sands and emerald green water. I've lived in major cities and this cozy beach town has restaurants to rival them all, and fresh seafood that I can't even begin to describe. If you're looking for Miami nightlife, this is not your place, but it's the perfect family or couple's get-away. It's a true resort town that caters to the tourists. Water sports including fishing are great, ok snorkeling with great clarity/vision, and the harbor is a knock-out with its sunsets, restaurant/bars, marinas, and 'Crab Island' in the middle where the boats pull up and anchor in knee-deep water and mingle, and sometimes bump with the friendly dolphins that frequent the area. The swimming is fantastic here with very gentle waves and a gradual slope so that it stays shallow quite a while. Be sure to check out Sandestin and shop the outlet mall!

Pros: Beautiful beaches, great seafood, lots to do, definitely go to Seaside and SeaGrove Beach...very quaint. Cons: A BAD APPLE IN SOUTHERN RESORTS RENTALS. But, no other cons to mention.
Destin is simply one of the best places in the panhandle of Florida. White beaches, nice eats, and lots to do.
But, VERY NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE with a group called SOUTHERN RESORTS!!!!!!!! We rented a home on their website, and they confirmed and billed a sizable amount to our credit card. They called 3 weeks later and said they were canceling as this property had changed to weekly rental only. Despite explaining that we could not be away that long,and that our daughter was going to be terribly disappointed, they did nothing to include no apology. The manager further kept promising she would call back, and that she was getting us another property, and NEVER got back to us!!! Use DESTINDAYS.COM they were a pleasure to deal with!!!

We have enjoyed Destin fl for over 10 years. we prefer to stay on old rt 98 its more peaceful and less crowded. It has great resturants.
Lodging... we have used the VRBO website and have found wonderful rentals at a good price. We have rented 7-8 places though this web site and only once were we dissapointed, and that was only because of a decietful rude transaction. Beware of member# 12408.
Our favorite place to stay is Surfside,virtually every unit has a good view, and it's right on the gulf.
