When my previous scanner, a Visioneer Paperport 7600USB, died, I was looking for a fast, high quality, moderately priced scanner that was easy to use. I have a small online business that deals in collectible playing cards and I sell on Ebay as...
Pros: fast scans, easy to use, doubles as a copier when combined with an Epson printer Cons: it has a smaller scanning footprint than I am used to
Pardon the paraphrasing from Barney. I'm sure the big purple dinosaur would not mind, and if he does I don't really care for Barney and I never really got along all that well anyway; but I digress.
Those of you who have read my other computer-related reviews already know this, but for new readers, I'm a graphic artist by profession and am currently doing the layout and design for 2 high quality full color magazines, and am pretty demanding when it...
Pros: Attractive Unit, Fast Cons: Original positioning, artifacts
After reading generally quite positive reviews of Epson scanners, both in the press and on Epinions, I went to CompUSA to purchase a Perfection 610. Lowest model available was the 640U, priced at $150 and the 1240U, also priced at $150(?). Twice the...
Pros: Super FAST! Excellent image quality Cons: a bit pricier; buttons on front of scanner don't work
Pre-scans in about 10 seconds. Complete scan at 720 dpi in less than a minute. The image quality is beautiful; even picks up minuscule dust particles, so you need to be careful that picture and scanning surface are dust-free.
I just returned my 1240u after spending about 20 hours trying to get it to work properly. There is a design flaw in this scanner. The ribbon cable that connects the electronics to the light wand is polished aluminum and reflects much more light than...
I researched several scanners when I went to replace my Visioneer 3100USB junky scanner. This one was at the top of the list on several review sites (pc magazine, computer world, etc.) So I decided to get it. The reviews stated that this scanner had very...
Pros: Great quality, great price, easy to setup. Cons: No power button.
I love this scanner! I did some research, (at this website and others) and decided to go ahead and purchase the Epson Perfection 1240U at BUY.com for about $139.00. It was more like $150.00 with shipping, but still a great price. I received the...
Pros: 42-bit colour; fast; short warmup time; USB interface; lightbox option Cons: a little bit pricey; USB interface not available to everyone
The Perfection 1240U replaces the older 1200 and comes basically in a 2 model lineup: 1240U and the 1240U PHOTO (with the detachable lightbox option). The scanner in this lineup are identical. The software bundled is also identical with a slight...
Pros: Amazing speed, good image quality. USB support. Fair price Cons: None so far.
I purchased this scanner because of the rave reviews and editor's choice awards the Epson 636 and 1200 got. It seems Epson has did a great job on the 1240U too. It's nearest competitor is the HP 5370cse/cxi (A rebranded Avision scanner),
Pros: Powerful scanning abilities, easy to navigate menus Cons: Instalation a tad difficult, pricey
My boss asked me to buy the company a new scanner so we could scan in some articles out of a magazine to make an electronic edition. Both of us wanted the best quality scanner and I researched the net for the best. Both CNET.com and PC Magazine had the...
Pros: Very good for photos and documents. Cons: no on/off switch. No major cons.
I've used it for about a year. Scanned photos, books, magazines, documents, pictures that have to be stitched because they're too big for one scan, three dimensional objects. So far the machine works great and the scans are really good. This is the 3rd scanner I've owned and the best. Haven't seen any "light strips" or whatever it is that others have mentioned.
I don't like the fact that it has no on/off switch. The light turns off automatically after some time of non-use, but the machine has to be unplugged from the power outlet to be completely turned off.
I don't think the bundled OCR program is compatible with Windows XP. I bought a newer one.
If you don't want to buy an expensive pro scanner this is a very good machine for scanning photos and documents.
