Pros: Durable, easy to assemble, has more variety than I expected Cons: Hard to store when not in use, needs some floor space.
For generations one of the staples of being a kid in America is a train set. With my generation, and those before me, this ritual involved an electric train with metal energized rails. These were great and many of us have spent hours playing with them, ...
Pros: Endless opportunities for rail and road play with GeoTrax, easy to use by little hands Cons: Really need additional sets; takes 6 AAA batteries for each train/remote pair
As stated in other recent reviews, my 5 year old son got 5 sets of GeoTrax for his birthday and Christmas this year. The Workin' Town Railway comes with 30 pieces and is actually a complete plastic train track. As Fisher Price states, "The more you ...
Pros: No real direct competition with the same functionality for this age group. Cons: Remotes are not durable.
You will go through batteries like crazy.
My three year old son is addicted to trains. For the longest time hed carry a wooden Thomas with him everywhere he went (including the daycare). This train would run on wooden tracks. Problem with wooden tracks is that they dont stay ...
Pros: easy for preschoolers, fun for kids and dads Cons: making track layouts is a little challenging, takes up a lot of space
When we saw this set on sale at Toys R Us, we knew we had to have it! Though, now I'm not sure if we bought it for my son or my husband! My 3 year old had played with other Geo Trax sets before, so he was thrilled when he got his own! He can play ...
Pros: very durable, easy for little people to use, good remotes. Cons: need more than the initial starter set to make it fun
We bought this set for my 3 yr old son on his birthday, not knowing if he was even interested in such toys. He loved it. We had to put it together right away. He enjoys snapping the tracks together and it's so easy that he can. There are several track layout idea available. The only caution I have is that you need to purchase 2 or 3 main sets as well as extension sets to start up a "proper" train set. Our 9 year old daughter loves to play with her brother so we had to buy a second train with a remote so they could race around the track together. I'd recommend this for any little boy. It makes a great rainy day activity and is easy to snap apart and store when not in use.
Pros: Easy to put together, versatile layout, easy to use, GeoMotion windmill is fun to watch Cons: Engine doesn't shut off consistently, train sometimes gets stuck at the "factory"/gears don't turn
We bought this set for my not quite 2-year-old son for Christmas. We feel like the set had plenty of parts to do a pretty interesting layout, but like the option of buying additional pieces in the future. The remote was simple enough for my son to figure out in just a few minutes. The pieces snapped together very quickly and easily and the instructions in the manual were relatively easy to follow. My husband and I are having as much fun as he is, I think. We all like the switches that allow you to redirect the train along the way and the sound effects are not overwhelming. (Other Christmas toys are already driving me CRAZY!)
UPDATE: I contacted Fisher Price by telephone yesterday because we noticed that the train engine was not shutting off after a few minutes of non-use (as described in the manual.) They immediately offered to send a new engine. I received an e-mail confirmation within an hour. Great customer service. We did wonder, though, why they didn't design the engine with a shut-off switch, since the batteries can only be removed with a screwdriver.
Absolutely LOVE this train set by twinboys316 ,Dec 21 '06
Pros: Keeps the kids minds active and imagining for hours. Cons: Takes more than 1 set to build a good system.
You can buy a little or you can build a huge set. It does take up a lot of space. The kids will play with it for hours. They can put a few tracks together themselves. If it ends onto the floor, who cares - They did it! My 4 yr old boys love to build their own but they also love to have help to set up a 'cool' track system.
We bought several different systems to this and also got extra track from garage sales. We looked everywhere for months and months. Several stores only carry them in December.
