Pros: Processor, price, features, extra DVD Rom. Plus quiet and easy to service. Cons: Need to install AMDCPU patch for video playback to work properly.
This PC looks great on paper, and really can be a great-running feature-packed powerhouse, but to get there you need to rectify a couple small issues. The bright side is that this model can be had for a very good price as they clear them out. Just ...
Pros: Awesome processor, cool&quiet, pci-e, 3Gb/s sata headers, 4 dimm ram slots Cons: Power supply inadequate for upgrades! 2MB cache on drive, needs more hard drive bays
I have not dealt with Gateway support, so disregard my rating on their support. I also have not used the TV/tuner/remote features available on this model either as we already have 4 tv's in the house and twice as many remotes :-) I upgraded to the ...
Pros: If you get an extended warranty, you can get a replacement when this one dies. Cons: Hardware is of poor design and/or quality
This is the worst, most unreliable computer I have owned. It's not surprising that Gateway is out of business now. In the two years it lasted, it went out of service twice. We were lucky to get it running again the first time. The most recent fatal ...
Pros: UUUHHHHH.....HMMM....It's a computer, and, uhh... It has, well had television!?!?! Cons: It's a gateway! It resets CONSTANTLY,and sometimes the resetting is Repetitively, plus more
I purchased this Gateway GT 5032 January 2006 (approx. $1800) and it began acting up November 2006. Well before then, but From January to November I was having resetting problems (computer would shut down in the middle of anything I was doing), but I ...
Pros: Quiet, 1000gig ram, 250gig hard drive. Cons: Media Center is not worthwhile unless you have a broadband connection.
I've only had this computer for a couple of weeks so I can't testify to it's longevity but I've had no problems yet. It has a 250 gig hard drive and 1 gig of ram which they say is necessary to support the dual core processor as well as the media ...
Gateway Media Center PC experience by labaster ,Apr 30 '06
Pros: Has everything that we want Cons: 64 bit, We have to buy another one
We are very happy with our dual core Athlon Gateway media center. We bought it packaged together with a monitor for $899 with some rebates which still hasn't yet arrived. This PC has evething that we want packaged together cause otherwise custom package that we tried at New Egg seems more costly. It has dual core Athlon and nvidia graphics card. It comes with plenty of RAM and hard disk space. I love the 19" LCD monitor. Nice keyboards (has a sleep button). We like the design of the casing. It's easy to open and close to install a new card. The look isn't too bad. Having the flash card readers, etc is handy to download photos from our digital camera instead of using the USB cable. We bought another gateway media center (one model down with a single core), so I can watch cable using a TV tuner card while my husband can play games on the dual core. Oh, btw, we needed to buy a new nvidia graphics card to play some 3D games. I don't know about the 64 bit. Seems most application now still using 32-bit.
DONT BUY THIS GATEWAY GT5032 by jrtucker ,Mar 01 '06
Pros: Cheap price, instant rebates, when it was working i did like it. Cons: Cheaply made, poor support, multiple product failures. Wont sent replacement parts over night.
I read the reviews but purchased anyhow do to the price and the instant rebate I was getting. It worked great for 2 days then went crazy. Had to return to the store I purchased and exchanged for another of same model. The new one I exchanged for worked for 10 minutes and had a problem. Gateway support had me do I full restore and then the thing failed to reboot. Gateway tech said hard drive had failed. Its cheap made and crapy. The techs at gateway dont seem to know what they are doing either. Support suck, products suck. I took everything back and bought a HP m7360n. It cost a bit more but as soon as I got it out of the box I could see the better quality. Now that I have it setup and using it, I love it. Will never buy a gateway again. 6 hours and agrivation, several trips to the store to return twice. They suck. Dont buy it. BUY SONY OR HP!!!
Pros: Fast Cons: Motherboard went bad after 14 months.
Well, I decided to keep my second GT5032 despite the jerky TV picture, which was finally fixed with downloads. The TV segment worked fairly well and other computer functions worked fine for 14 months when I turned it on and all I got was the fan spinning at high speed. Replaced power unit and re-sorted the memory sticks before taking it back to Best Buy. Without diagnosing they said it has a bad mother board. Not a happy camper here.
Pros: Worked fairly well for just over a year Cons: I pitched $1368 dollars to the wind
I bought a gateway GT 5032 Media Center. Shortly after the warranty expired it expired also. I paid $1368 dollars of hard earned money and was told by Gateway sorry we can't help you your warranty has expired. I took it to be repaired was told the power supply and the motherboard were bad. He stated this model had a weak power supply and motherboard from the factory. He suggested I purchase a new computer it would cost more to fix this one than it was worth. DO NOT BUY GATEWAY!!!!!!!!!
Pros: nice design Cons: cheap components render unit obsolete in one year
I had the same problem--after one year it tanked because of a bad power supply and motherboard. Gateway essentially told me to shove it. It's just junk. They're a ripoff company.
I recently purchased my gateway in Feb. 2006. Since the purchase I could not get media center to ever work properly.I have contacted gateway several times about this issue to be hung up on twice, got the run around that it was everyone elses problem except them, tried several patches, and even returned to gateway and they never even looked at it just shipped it back to me. The last phone call I made to gateway The supervisor told me never to call back again that they would not talk to me and that the problem is mine.
Bought a GT5032 and got a replacement for it because the TV tuner was faulty out of the box. The replacement was faulty too. The TV tuner is the ATI Theater 550 Pro TV Tuner. Techs worked on both, including downloading software from ATI but the TV picture continued to skip/stutter and eventually it would freeze after about 30 minutes. I'm returning the second one for a refund.
Pros: Excellent price. Cons: Only trial period MS office.
I had an old HP computer that crashed. Instead of replacing what was broken, I decided to buy a new computer with more memory and speed. After looking at specs of various models I decided to buy the Gateway GT5032.
I did not have any problems setting it up. Pretty much took it out of the box and connected the old monitor, printer, and DSL line. I am surprised how fast this computer is to the previous HP.
Pros: Good reliable machine with plenty of expandibility for the mid to average user. Cons: TV tuner but a simple download fixes the problem.
I have had my GT5032 for two and a half years now and have never had a problem with it. I just recently upgraded the memory to 4 gigs and the DVD-RW to 56x I laugh to see that all the people saying buy sony or hp, they are all made from the same parts idiots!!! Yes all computers need some tweaks here and there but are all pretty much easy to do. For an out of the box computer this one is just fine. If you want high end I suggest going to tigerdirect and getting a bare bones kit and build it yourself. For the average Joe this one is great.
