I was concerned by some of the other reviews, but in the end I felt I had to have that extra capacity. Wow, am I glad I bought this machine! It has cut my time in the laundry room by a good 30%. It holds an unbelievable amount of clothes, small rugs, comforters, etc. It absolutely gets clothes clean. There is some tangling, but not as much as I was concerned about, and you just - untangle it.

I really like that the washer doesn't use as much water as conventional machines, and the spin action really does get a lot of water out. Unlike another reviewer, I haven't paid any attention at all to putting heavier clothes in first. The machine has never become unbalanced. I love the various program options and the ability to pre-program six different cycles. I love the internal heater for very hot washes. The clear lid is very cool, too. I've never been happier with a washing machine.

FYI, if you are considering buying the dryer as well, the tops for the washer and dryer CAN be switched, unlike what some appliance dealers told me.

Don't buy this washer. It may not use a lot of water, but it almost takes ONE hour to wash a load of clothes - and that sure takes a lot of electricity! In addition, the wash cloths come out smelling rotten and the clothes are looking dirty to me. (By the way, there's just 2 of us in the household and we are 60 - so we don't really get things very dirty any more. And we wash everything after one wearing.) The washer seems to be working perfectly. I don't know what the problem is. GE's not responsive. I plan on sending them a washcloth and see what they'll do next. The washer is out of warranty.

Very disappointed with the washer... it simply doesn't get the clothes clean. I generally have to take the few truly dirty items out of the washer and clean them in the sink before putting in the dryer. If you get anything dirty (dust cloth, baby spit up, etc.) it will come out looking just like it did when it went in. A Kleenex that accidentally went through the wash came out in tact. Some will suggest this means it is gentle on clothes, but I think it means it can't possibly be getting the clothes clean. And, it isn't that gentle because of all the clothes being badly tangled. [As for the matching dryer, I can't set the sensor high enough to get the clothes dry. "More dry" and they still come out so damp I'm afraid to fold them and put them away.] I only hope the appliance store where I purchased them will take them back and let me purchase something else.

After doing much research, I decided on the GE Profile Harmony. Since most stores didnt have it as a floor model, I did a special order and crossed my fingers for luck. I LOVE IT!!!!!  So far, one of the best appliances I have. It has all special features that match the wash cycle to your article of clothing or blanket, etc. A must see before buying any other washer. It also does not have an agitator, but something called Direct Drive. Clothes do not come out twisted like a rope like some others.

Cons: CLOTHS ARE A TANGLED MESS. DOES NOT RINSE WELL, MADE BY G.E.

FROM DAY ONE WE HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PROFILE HARMONY WASHING MACHINE. THE ONLY THING IT DOES WELL IS THAT IT LOOKS NICE. THE CLOTHS COME OUT IN A TANGLED KNOT AND WHEN WE DO CHECK TO SEE IF THE MACHINE REMOVED ALL THE SOAP IN THE RINSE CYCLE WE FIND THAT THERE IS STILL SOAP LEFT IN THE CLOTHS. I HAVE CALLED GE TO SEE IF THEY WILL DO ANYTHING. YOU GUESSED IT, THEY WILL DO NOTHING, PRETTY MUCH LIKE THE MONOGRAM REFRIGERATOR WE PURCHASED.

The GE Harmony washer is a very impressive machine. I have the one with the clear glass lid (this is a top-loading machine, of course)..The user controls are easy to understand, and the clothes have never been washed so clean (it replaced an older agitator machine). The internal heater in a top loader is a great feature. I use it for all bedding, in an attempt to kill dust mites. The higher temp is also good in the washing of whites.

The curved design of the control panel is a feature that may or may not appeal to every user. I love it.

Pros: High energy, low water usage--the color white does not clash with anything.
Cons: Towels and dishrags retain an offensive odor after going through wash cycle.

My husband and I spent a lot of $$ purchasing what we thought was an efficient, top-notch washing machine. I feel I am wasting my time washing my clothes. The worst problem is the smell!!!!! After several months, I have noticed that ALL my towels and dishrags retain a sour smell. The moment you start drying off, you get this rancid odor. It is so AWFUL!!!! I have tried a variety of settings and different brands of detergents. I have tried soaking my dishrags in bleach. I tried using a bottle of bleach in a wash cycle to clean out any stagnate water. It helped for a week or so but now my towels are back to smelling. It seems that this is a common problem for a variety of brands of high efficiency washers. I have 5 other friends who have other brands of front loading machines and they are all having the same problem. I called GE to complain and they say they have had no other complaints like this. What a waste of money!!!

We bought this machine a few years back. We loved it until the problems began...GE service DOES NOT know how to fix the problems and GE Managers do not care. We now own a $1000 machine that DOES NOT WORK. Service contracts are worthless. They have been out 7 times to fix the machine 4 for the same problem (and its still not fixed). NOT WORTH THE MONEY because they are unable to repair.

I just love my new washing machine. I like the top loader but I like the size and the way the front loader cleans. I was skeptical and with all the problems I've had with my Maytag Gemini Range (read review) I really had to think twice before I got a rather expensive appliance again. I'm glad I did!! And, when your husband forgets one or two pieces of laundry, he can still throw it in the machine!! Very easy to program, too

I did a lot of research this time because i got tied of disappointments. I had a front loader because i was told it was more efficient than a top loader with the agitator.I bought the front loader and was not happy. It takes 70 minutes to wash cloths and you got to keep the seal bleached every month or bacteria will build up and make you sick. Ive got the new GE harmony and i love it. The cloths come out very clean and it uses very little water and only takes 49 minutes to wash one load where it would take me two loads in the other washer. I will recommend this to anyone who wants the very best. I cant think of anything i don't like about this washer. The only thing some people may not like is the Digital display but it is easy to use. You can also reprogram the settings to your choice. Ive learned you cant believe everything a salesman said because there opinion is usually based on how much money they can put in there pockets.

I bought this washer along with the dryer when we built our house back in Nov. 2005. At the time I was an employee of GE and got a great deal on the washer and dryer along with other Profile appliances.
The washer has always been fairly quiet, especially when compared to the older agitator types. Cleaning was on par with other washers we have had in the past. Overall operation/ performance are fine.
With that said, my primary complaint with this washer is durability. During the time that we have had it, the touchscreen has gone out, and now the "clutch coupling" has failed. Although GE has covered these items under warranty, there has still been the cost of the service visits (happened after the first year)and the inconvenience of not having a working washer with a family of four for several days at a time. For a washer in this price range, I expect much higher quality. This family will no longer buy GE product line appliances.

Cons: The matching dryer is noisy. Washer rattles after needing repair just over one year.

After just over a year the washer started making a ratcheting sound in agitation mode like it was skipping gear. GE service replaced a raft of parts that fixed that but now the washer makes a rattling sound in spin cycle. GE service technician said they can't do anything about the rattling sound because my contract doesn't cover noises!! It gets pretty loud sometimes. Called and spoke with a GE service supervisor who told me nothing he could done but send another technician out and if the same problem they would charge me!!! I have a 5 year extended service contract. I'll probably bail on this GE washer and dryer ASAP and get Fisher & Paykel or Frigidaire units.

Cons: Pretty much everything.I am reminded of that as I wrestle with every twisted load. 

I hate this machine. You either let the machine decide how much water (not enough) or it is a full load, even if you are just tossing in a few things. When you let the machine choose, you will notice that a few articles of clothing end up plastered up against the drum, above the water line. The clothes get so twisted and knotted that any stain within the knotted area will still be there after the load finally gets done. Wet jeans tightly knotted up with shirts and sweats gets very heavy. And don't even think of putting knits it...unless you want it stretched out beyond recognition. It kept going off balance, even though I was careful when loading. They told me to wash like clothes with like clothes; that is, a load of underwear and tee-shirts, separately from a load of jeans and sweats. Oh yeah...two teenage boys. I have time for that. My old clunker (20 years) at the beach house does a far better job, and does it faster.

I purchased one of these about a year ago. I like the large capacity and the way my laundry looks; however, there is one big drawback - these washers have an odor that appears after you have had them awhile. It is an obnoxious sulfuric smell, that seems to come from under the tub. I contacted the dealer who sold it to us. He said he has been made aware of the problem by other owners, and that there are tablets(which are expensive) that you can purchase to help alleviate the smell, but that he cannot help me. He also states that the dealership does not do trade-ins. I feel like we have been abandoned after trusting that this very expensive washer would be wonderful. What good is a washer that literally stinks?

Fell in love with the look and large capacity. Could do one load when I used to do three. I found it to be very hard on the clothes, though. They came out tangled and stretched. I then played with the controls and now know which cycles is best for what. The "Delicate" cycle works best for just about everything. When I use a detergent booster, my clothes come out so bright and white -- I'm very impressed and happy. My machine is two years old and I've never had a problem.

Cons: Scheduling of repairs, flooding of the house.

This machine is junk!  Since buying it in 2006 GE has been out to repair it 6 times, and changed out the transmission on the second to last visit.  The machine started to make noises and called GE once again.  A week later the washer flooded the down stairs foyer and living room.  This has been a pain ever since buying it.  Wouldn't wish this machine on my worst enemy.
