Pros: Inexpensive, nice screen, simple interface Cons: Directions could be clearer, detour option is not configurable
After my friend got tired of me borrowing his Garmin GPS all the time, I saw this Garmin Nuvi 205W on sale near Christmas so I decided to get my own. This is a basic, no-frills GPS. It will give you directions, has a large points of interest (POI) ...
Pros: POI database, speed, accuracy, ease of use. Cons: map detail, non-included accessories, voice prompts, navigational quirks.
***NOTE! - This review is for the Garmin Nuvi 205, not the 205W. When I wrote it, I did use the page for the correct model number, but for some reason Epinions moved it here.***Perhaps my experience with the Nuvi 205 is a ...
Pros: Economical, easy to use, fair price & does a good job. Cons: Poorly written documentation, no USB cable & no software included.
I purchased this GPS unit for my mom on mother's day. Last Sunday we finally opened it up and I helped her sort through the bits and peices of the GPS unit.Out of box experience to be honest was a bit disappointing. Let me explain why. I ...
Pros: Inexpensive, easy to use Cons: no protective storage case, controls can be stubborn sometimes.
I needed a GPS for a long trip, but was concerned about price and complexity. I also wanted one that was large enough to see. Then the 205W came into my life. I picked it up for about $200 new in January and had it installed in my truck. It's got a nice, ...
Pros: fairly cheap, lots of handy features, easy to use and figure out Cons: must be close to the road for the initial GPS reading, slightly grating robotic voice
I just bought this device but I am very impressed so far. It is easy to figure out and has an outstanding number of features for the price! It will of course get you to a specific address but it will also find restaurants, fuel, hospitals and a host of ...

I was given the Garmin nuvi 205W Car Gps unit as a gift. It is perfect for navigation on unfamiliar roads. I used only this on a recent trip to Michigan with just putting the addresses in of my hotel and points of interest. Very easy to ...
Pros: Works good if you can stand the map being outdated. Cons: First time it reads a satallite the clock is ticking for current map.
Just got off the phone with garmin tec support. I got my garmin for Christmas. My husband evidently turned it on the day he bought it in December. Since it has been past the 60 day mark I have to pay for the new map. There is ...

My wife and I are getting ready to move to a new duty station and we decided it was time to buy a GPS system for our cars. I was reluctant at first because I take pride in my maps and ability to find my way. Well I broke down and we began ...
Pros: Ease of use, cost. Cons: Can't update the lousy database.
I bought this unit to save money after my Nuvi 660 was stolen with my car. What a disappointment the 205W is! The hardware is nice, but the software is sorely lacking. It didn't even recognize the existence of Amarillo, Texas, which I'm fairly sure has been in the same place for quite some time. It couldn't find the Hyatt Hotel in San Antonio, either. Yuk. I can't recommend this item; I guess you get what you pay for.
Pros: Good font of information when you have the correct address. Cons: See my review.
This unit has a bunch of great features. I just have 3 major issues with this. First:The Documentation I received with the unit was very spotty and incomplete.Even the PDF file I downloaded from Garmin didn't fully explain all the features of the unit. Second:The user interface is kinda clunky and sometimes takes wading thru lots of screens to get to where you want to go. Third:The biggest complaint I have with the NUVI is the maps are at least 5 years or better old.I am a professional driver and some of the roads I travel on are not listed in the unit.Looks as though I am traveling in the middle of an field. The point is I spent $250 for the unit I should reasonably expect the unit to have more up to date maps.
