Pros: Wide carriage, Networkable, inkjet technology. Cons: Does not ship network-ready; i.e. with a network card, or paper.
In the realm of printing, there are a plethora of printer to meet normal desktop, workgroup, and network printing needs. These printers are fine for 8.5" x 11" /14 or smaller printing, but for large format wide carriage printing (24, 36, or 42 ...
Pros: Great quality, fantastic paper handling, ink seems to last forever Cons: It's big... don't put it in a corner.
I've had an HP DesignJet 500 for a couple of years now (don't know why I didn't think to write a review... duh!) but let me say that this is just about the most versitile printer that I've worked with, as far as output options. I use mine for printing ...
Pros: Workhorse, and a reliable machine Cons: LED panel not lit up. Larger and uglier than it needs be.

The HP DesignJet 500 PS is now an expensive doorstop by adrio ,Oct 11 '03
Pros: It printed some nice pictures when it could Cons: It is now unsupported by HP to the point of obsolescence
After 2 years in which there were 0 (zero) updates to the Macintosh driver in spite of all kinds of bugs, in the last few months the driver wouldn't start at all. HP is recommending that one starts the machine in OS9, which is no longer possible on the current generation of machines.
HP has the knowledge to handle the operating system, as its other printers handle it, yet it chooses to do nothing. So the HP DesignJet 500 PS is now a very expensive and big doorstop.
Pros: Great printer with high quality and photo finish. Cons: Not the fastest to learn to use; use some patience.
FOR WINDOWS USERS: Not the fastest to learn to use, but after that it is a great printer with high quality and photo finish. Plenty of documentation on CD and you can search Google for help on other issues.
