Honda EU3000is Generator is the best!

by civi , Feb 07 '03
Pros: Extremely quiet;runs itself;tons of accessories;built tough and tight.
Cons: If you can pick up about 135 + lbs, none at all.
Many years ago, when we moved on to trailer "camping", (the family grew and we got tired of the dog rolling the tent to another site when we were scuba diving at night) I really was determined to get myself one of those loud generators. When I decided...

A super quiet generator

by tarf , Sep 09 '03
Pros: Quiet, reliable, fuel thrifty, easy to start, light in weight.
Cons: Pricey.
For small portable generators there is really only one name in generators: Honda. I have been using Honda generators for about 17 years and have always had excellent performance out of these units. The company I work for uses about 15 Hondas of various ...

A very nice generator but a little loud...

by tgregoryt Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Aug 05 '05
Pros: Inexpensive compared to other Honda generators, somewhat light
Cons: Very loud, fuel only lasts for four hours...
For what it is, this is a very good generator. It is a simple, inexpensive generator with enough kick for most applications – 3,500 watts. One thing it isn’t is “industrial”, which I think means that the gas tank is too small. The tank holds about a ...

Adequate for essential, inexpensive, emergency home back-up power

by famousdavis , Jul 09 '05
Pros: Affordable, sufficient to power a refrigerator + small room air conditioner, small size.
Cons: VERY LOUD, like a lawnmower. No wheels so it's heavy to move.
I live in South Florida, and after having two hurricanes blow through our area in the fall of 2004, and after having a total of 12 days without power, I thought I'd like to have a backup generator available to me and my family for this and future ...

Overpriced but Reliable

by nwavguy , Jun 19 '07
Pros: Relatively light/small, long runtime, protective cage, starts easily, runs well, conservatively rated, parts availability.
Cons: Loud, relatively 'dirty' electrical output, overpriced, no circuit breaker/switch, no control panel.
I ended up with this generator when the power went out and stayed out in the area for hundreds of thousands of people. My Chinese no-name 2800 watt unit wouldn't run because the seals in the carb had failed while it was stored. The stores were all sold ...

Excellent little generator

by tgregoryt Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Aug 05 '05
Pros: Inexpensive, quiet, light-weight
Cons: 1,000 watts is not enough for many applications
There has been not yet been a review on this product that gives it less then 5 stars, and I doubt there ever will be. For what it does, this is about as good a product as exists. It is durable, easy to use, light, far more quiet then expected, and ...

Pros: Unit has a high quality feel to it.
Cons: Front wheels do not swivel when you add the wheel kit.

A Camp Organizer's Recommendation: A Must-buy!

by charles Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Jun 13 '00
Pros: Great and reliable generator to have around the house

Pros: Enclosed unit, wheels standard, sure start, no hot parts exposed.
Cons: Over priced, expensive parts, not even quiet.

Cons: You pay a huge premium for dependability, but Honda is not "lemon-proof".

Excellent generator and very quiet
by mrlisn2me ,Jan 01 '07
Pros: Quiet, reliable and HONDA.
Cons: Heavy and expensive.
I have owned a Honda EX4500SK1 generator for about four years. It is trouble free, quiet and always starts right away. It is heavy and expensive, but well worth the cost and weight. I have also used many other brands and generator types. I mostly use the generator for camping and tailgating, but have also used if for construction sites and for providing electricity for music equipment at live events. I highly recommend this generator, but be careful, as the other opinion notes since this item has been discontinued, try to purchase a new (old stock) unit or use your head if you plan to purchase a used generator. The other person offering an opinion obviously purchased a unit with some malfunctions. Mine operates at 61-62 DB under full load.

Honda EU3000is
by dlebeau ,Jan 02 '07
Pros: Quiet. Good fuel economy. Extremely reliable even at below zero temps.
Cons: No factory remote starter.
I bought this unit 3 years ago to power my camp and shed
in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire. This was a replacement for a Honda 2500 that I used for 9 years. My first surprise was how quiet it was. The second was how fuel efficient it was. I can get 12+ hours on a tank of gas. It starts up every time, even when it's below zero.
This year, I added an aftermarket remote starter kit from Sun Honda that works great. My Generator is set up in my out house and at night, all I have to do it hit the button to shut the lights off. Same for first thing in the morning. Nothing like a little convenience in the wilderness.

Now I know why Honda is such a winner !
by honsell ,Apr 02 '04
Pros: QUIET,ELECTRIC or PULL start, E-Z oil & air filter change.
Cons: Should have wheels. Too heavy to move around.
We are retiring in December of this year (2004) and will be traveling about the USA for a year or so in our 26' Jayco fiver & B2500 Diesel. Last week I bought the EU3000is generator and I can't believe how QUIET it is! One of the features I especially is the ECO throttle switch. This allows the unit to idle at a super low speed, reducing fuel consumption and noise. Another feature I like is the 3.4 gallon fuel tank on top. Long run times. When you get yours, plan on getting some wheels for it, or build yourself a wagon of sorts to move it. Also, lifting it up and placing it in the bed of my (waist high) truck bed is too much for me. I can't wait to hit the road with this jewel. Signed, Doug Thompson

An exceptional generator
by toddbu ,Apr 19 '04
Pros: Quiet, requires little maintenance, easy on gas
Cons: Expensive, heavy
My ham radio club used an EX5500 for three years before having to give up the unit. Every year we host an event (Field Day) where we run on backup power for 24 hours straight. Apart from having to shut down the unit to check the oil, we ran it continuously for the entire time. Our second year we had some trouble keeping the unit running, but it was pretty amazing that it ran at all given that we didn't have the thing serviced for a couple of years. It's so quiet that we could stand next to it and have a normal conversation. We burned about 14 gallons of fuel for the entire event, and we were running radios, an air conditioner, and the occasional popcorn maker. I'd highly recommend the unit, if you have the cash.

This generator is the "Shizzle"
by richbaum ,Apr 27 '05
Pros: Quiet, reliable, peace of mind (it's a Honda)
Cons: Price / It's like picking up Willard Scott!
Oh baby, let’s talk power? Quiet power, reliability and confidence (when you need it)
We ordered this Generator on-line and got it for $1660 and that included shipping, insurance and no tax.
It came; we opened it up, put in oil & gas and voila, started right up.
I checked around and finally decided to bite the bullet and get the best, quietest and most reliable 3000 watt generator on the market.
This think is really a beauty. Everything about it is quality. The finish is beautiful and about the only thing I don’t like (besides the price) is that picking it up is like picking up the Village People! Man is this thing stout. I did though put it on my $20 four wheel furniture dolly and it was a perfect fit! No need for the wheel kit. I only had to cut a 1/2 “ piece of ply wood and strap it down and now it wheels in all directions for only $20
If you e mail me I will send you photos of this rig.

I totally recommend this generator for, if anything, peace of mind, remember, it’s a Honda!

Great, Reliable, Plenty of power, LOUD - VERY LOUD
by twarren ,Oct 07 '05
Pros: Reliable, Easy to roll
Cons: Loud
This is an incredibly reliable, plenty powerful generator. However, this baby is made for construction sites (or other noise tolerant uses) -- not home or RV use. It's quieter than other brand's models, but this is thing is pretty loud. If you are looking for QUIET --- get the Honda EU3000. The EU3000 is all that the EB3500 is, but much, much quieter! The EU3000 is much more fuel efficient as well.

Survival
by shinklee ,Jan 12 '06
Pros: Small, light, quiet, reliable.
Cons: No overload reset bottom, at least that I can get to work. No oil catcher.
I wanted a generator I can use for scientific explorations were sometimes a laptop, transceiver, lights and other devices may be required.

The beauty of the Honda 1000i is that it can be paired to produce 2000 watts max or about 1800 watts continuous. So the 30 pound generator can be carried by one strong person on their back or on a ATV. Fuel is much heavier and takes more space.

The generator produces a clean output required for sensitive equipment. The noise is tolerable.

I tried many small gas operated motors produced in the USA and they were all very disppointing, especially when it came to reliability. The Honda motor like my honda car is very reliable.

The Yamaha is the only contender I can see so far to the Honda generators.

One really bad point... it you overload the generator, the only way I got it to output electric again is by turning off the unit and starting it up again. There should be a simple reset bottom. Maybe there is but I wasnt able to get it to work.

So Quiet
by ltcobretti ,Sep 08 '06
Pros: Quiet, Electric Start, Good Power Level, Eco-Throttle
Cons: Heavy, No Wheels, Large
I bought an EU3000 about two years ago, it is fantastically quiet and kind-of a lower pitch than other quiet generators. According to http://www.generatorfacts.com , it is quieter than normal speech.

The Eco-Throttle is a cool feature, the generator runs only at a level to supply the power I am drawing from it. This should be the case with every generator. Also, it is only as loud as it needs to be too.

I am quite happy, but do wish it was lighter. You need two people to move on, and even then it is heavy. Honda says it weighs 134 lbs, and then will hold about another 28 lbs of gas and oil. I am not sure if the battery is in that weight...but that gets up to 80 lbs per side or so...

Cons: Pricy, heavy for one person, will not run travel trailer a/c with other components on

Honda EN2500 is a great buy for hurricane Gustav!
by rajandleena ,Sep 10 '08
Pros: Effecient, very low fuel consumption. 1 gallon=5 hours (1 tank=2.9 Gal)

Cons: larger fuel tank.
We bought this just before Hurricane Gustav for $665 from a Honda Dealer in Houma, LA. Started up on first pull. we used it for four days. Typically we run it continously for 12 hours at night and for 3 hours during the day. It ran (all at the same time) a 11 cu.ft freezer, large refridgerator, 3 celing fans, 2 box fans and a few 60 watt lights.
We turned off the main electric supply to our home (to prevent back feed into Entergy lines..can kill a lineman), rigged a male to male plug and plugged the generator into one of our home recepticles. Then with all the breakers in the panel turned OFF, we were able to selectively re-power about 80% of our home lights and celing fans. It even ran our dishwasher...but everything else has to be turned off. It did NOT run our 1200watt microwave, 525 watt blender, even when used exclusively.
Fuel consumption: runs continously for 16 hours on one tankful (2.9 gal). 1 gallon lasts 5 hours or more at full capacity.
Changed oil every 25 hours of run, used Valvoline Premium 10W30

Excellent, has been completely reliable
by glewbel ,Jan 01 '08
Pros: Quiet, reliable, low (zero) maintenance
Cons: Seems expensive when you buy it, but not after a few years' use
I live in the Santa Cruz mountains of California, where the local power company (PG&E) barely keeps its lines up during the winter in our area. We've had a Honda EX4500 generator for about 5 years. We use it every year, sometimes for just a few hours and sometimes for days on end while we wait for PG&E to restore service. It has NEVER failed to start immediately and run perfectly, despite having had essentially no maintenance except a new spark plug every year or so. The oil still looks clear and clean, the air filter is unclogged, and the neighbors often ask us what kind of generator we have since theirs are unreliable and a lot noisier. It's the generator I wish all of our neighbors had instead of their cheap lawn-motor-mower screamers that everyone else hates.

3000is generator
by myrtlebeachsob ,Dec 26 '07
Pros: Compact and well engineered. Quietest! Most expensive.
Cons: Price ala cart. DC cables and wheels extra. Needs handles like Deere, Troy Built, Coleman.
Bought this for our horse trailer which requires 1700 watts for rooftop AC when campsites do not offer AC. Wanted compact unit with DC capability to charge auto batteries. Will also use in emergency if hurricane hits SC coast.
