Good voice range but limited overall

by jerryspoor , May 07 '03
Pros: Good clear midrange with no problems in crossovers.
Cons: Too expensive for overall quality
The speaker has a level and clear midrange. A male voice comes through nicely. This is a $250 speaker and I placed it next to a KLH Model 970A $15 speaker for evaluation. Only a slight variation in voice was detected and I cannot tell you which one was...

An audiophile's dream.

Like the real thing

Pros: Sound quality and accuracy, Gold plated connectors, durability.
Cons: Depth, be sure you have enough room.
I was building a surround system from existing JBL LX44's and wanted to stay with the same manufacturer. I also know that recording studios use JBL to master recordings, so it make sense that you will hear what the sound producers intended. When I finally received the Center speaker, I was amazed at how, when I closed my eyes, I could envision the actor standing in front of me. The midranges (most of what dialogue is) are perfect. The speaker even produces a respectable amount of bass, not a big concern with a sub-woofer, but nevertheless, It can reproduce James-Earl Jones and Pavoratti dialogue as well as the clink of a champagne glass in a toast as if you were there to celebrate. You may make your own toast after you plug these in and let them run. As for the durability, my kids knocked it off its perch and it fell to the marble floor. After a mad fit, I dusted it off, reset the connectors and away it went, not a nick or scratch and sounded as great as ever. Highly recommended.

Pros: EVERYTHING
Cons: Size, Just a little too big.
This is simply the best Center that I have listen to. I have listened to POLK, INFINITY, DEFINITIVE, B&K, ETC.... IF you want the best center for the money, then get this one. This speaker has great response, mid's and YES even low's. I cant find anything wrong with this speaker, Ahh yes I can, I didnt buy one sooner.

RUN out and get this speaker. If you own JBL and are lookikng for a center speaker then this is the one for you.
