Don't Waste Your Money

by daddio53New Member , Nov 29 '09
Pros: There is nothing Pro about this device.
Cons: It simply does not work regardless of the computers I have tried it in.
I bought one of these pieces of crap. I returned it and had it replaced twice and it still didn't work. So they said they would test another one and then send it to me as a replacement. So I got the third and it worked - ONCE. The very next time I ...

Kaser Minivault 6GB
by jws-in-dallas ,May 10 '08
Pros: Worked well for 4-5 months.
Cons: Did not make it to 6th month!
Bought two (2) of these because the price was pretty reasonable for the capacity. Both units worked well for about 4-5 months. Used them as "shuttles" for rather large zip/tar files and was happy and impressed - even dropped them, accidentally, a couple of times without losing anything. Then, both "died" within weeks of each other. Maybe it was a sympathy thing. I'm taking a hammer to both of them.

Cornice Dragon Micro Drive - RIP
by sduncanae ,Mar 11 '09
Pros: Cool microdrive technology.  Take it apart and impress your friends.
Cons: Universal infant failure. Almost everyone reports failure after a short time.
There is a good reason that Cornice Corp of Colorado is out of business. They bet the farm on micro drive technology when flash memory prices were falling like a rock. Despite their "crash guard" technology, these devices seem to work for about a month or less before they start click-click-clicking and are no longer recognized by your OS and your data is gone.  I purchased mine at Frys and it came bundled with the Xvault Mambo portable media player, which actually works quite well despite the clunky interface. Now that you can buy an 8GB flash drive for $15, there is no point in putting your data in the trust of moving storage. Yes, Kaser has no support.  I learned that years ago when I bought a "Yo Fun" MP3 player.  Like many other "brand-x products", this is one of those take your chances hit or miss offerings. I still have a 256MB CF micro drive which is still working so microdrives can and do work.  But this production run should be avoided.

Stay AWAY from anything from Kaser
by chuckva ,Feb 03 '09
Pros: None
Cons: Pitiful quality and no customer support.
I purchased 2 of these 8 G vault drives.  One didn't work out of the box and the other died in less than a month.
I got absolutely no support from the company.  Will not answer email.  Their are plenty of reputable USB drive companies for you to support.

Due to there lack of any support I recommend you stay away from all of their products.

They need to stop selling them
by casabear ,Jun 25 '09
Pros: It's shiny. Has a pretty blue light.
Cons: Doesn't work.
Why are these pieces of crap being sold? Sure they're pretty paper weights. Sure they might make cool earrings. They may even serve as useful door stops, but don't put your data on them. Right out of the package, the ones I bought did not work. It made some cool grinding sound, as if it was trying....but nothing. The blue light flashed, like something was about to happen...but the computer did not recognize that anything was plugged in. If there is ever a class action law suit, I want my $.03 - which is all we would probably get.

Kaser miniVault 12gb
by tnrecruiter ,Sep 05 '08
Pros: None
Cons: Bought 2 of 12gb disks and both do not work.
Bought 2 Kaser miniVault 12gb drives. First one did not work at all and the second one worked one time and then would not work again. Bought them from ECost and they will not accept them as returns. I would not buy these.

Totally useless
by whisperwolf ,Apr 27 '08
Pros: If it HAD worked, it would have been a nice amount of storage space
Cons: Unfortunately it didn't, and from other reviews here that seems pretty typical.
I was told by the guy in store "Sure, I've used one of these, they're good". I was hesitating about buying this or buying a duracell 4Gb USB memory stick. I wish I'd gone with the warning bells and avoided this, I guess greed got the better of me.

Got it home, and the cable was missing. Not a major problem, since a USB connector is integral, but annoying that it wasn't complete. Plugged it into my XP Desktop, and it seemed to install okay. When it finished installing I double clicked on it... and got told "Insert a disk, there's nothing in that drive". Same thing with my Vista laptop, when I try to populate the device it says there's nothing there, and it can't be formatted because there's no drive showing.

All in all, a dead waste. Certainly not worth even $1 let alone the $30 I paid for it. I'm not getting another one, when this goes back tomorrow I'll obey my original desire, and have a proper USB flash drive. Smaller, yes - but far more reliable

Stay away from these things
by frank_murray ,Apr 18 '08
Pros: They appear to be a great value.
Cons: They don't work, or they do, not for very long. Poor customer support from Kaser.
I purchased one at Bestbuy for $44.99. It worked for about 2 weeks, and then became unreadable. Unfortunately I tossed out the receipt so I am stuck with a paper weight now. 3 emails to Kaser with no responses at all! Stay away from these at all costs!

The worst
by mikeybfromva ,Dec 09 '08
Pros: None
Cons: It is defective
Mine worked one time and never worked again.  Buyer beware, this a lemon!  I'm trying to get a refund or replacement.  Kaser does not answer e-mails and phone calls are not returned.  The Alameda Co. Better Business Bureau says Kaser has had 50 complaints in the past 36 months.

What are the odds... 2 of 3 units dead after less than 10 uses?
by big_noid ,Oct 20 '08
Pros: sleek design, nice color, USB connection fits... (notice a pattern)
Cons:

likely DOA, runs hot, short life cycle

I bought 2 from ecost... great price, why not? I'll tell you why not... Based on the precious reviews and my personal experience, apparently this product was not engineered for multiple uses, like say a Solid State/Flash Drive.

The 1st unit was DOA. ;-| However, ecost promptly exchanged with a replacement unit, which is still unopened. The 2nd unit has failed after loading about 4G's of data, and only accessing the data for work on occasion within 30 days. I figured it wouldn't last long, so I wasn't "crushed" when I lost the data. ...and I never dropped either
unit.

I haven't opened the replacement unit, but my guess is... if it works at all, it won't work for long.

Bad Technology
by tmouawad ,Apr 02 '09
Pros: Only slightly lower cost than a typical solid state flash stick.
Cons: High likelihood of failure due to mechanical parts in micro hard drive.
It makes no sense whatsoever for a company to invest immense amounts of money on a portable memory product based on a micro hard drive that is susceptible to mechanical failure in a market dominated with solid state flash memory technologies that have ZERO susceptibility to mechanical failure.

What were they thinking at Cornice?  They are about 15 years too late with this micro hard drive technology.

Stay away from this product.

Do not buy Kaser products
by theknock ,Feb 14 '09
Pros: NONE
Cons: Product is poor quality. STAY AWAY FROM PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT
Around the end of November 2008, I purchased the 8 gb unit. The unit initially worked. When I bought it I figured I take it back and forth to work with me.  I have several flash disk that I carry with me, but I figured that this 8 gb unit I could use for larger amount of data transfers. Beside the initial test, ( after I purchased it ) I did not use it at all until..... then in early February 2009, I tried to save data on it and it did not work. I had it for less than 3 months and it doesn't work.
